Hehehe, the title was an exaggeration. Nobody in their right mind would argue E5's can really compete with E8's clock for clock. I just think that at 4G it's good enough for games and if you want a significant performance increase for the money you spend on an E8 you might as well get a quad.

Besides gaming at low resolutions, how does it help? Most people game with widescreen 1280x800 or 1440x900 at least these days with at least some AA/AF. No one overclocks, then games at 1024x768 with no aa/af. No one does that for real world.

Raise the core speed of E5200 and E8400 to 3.4GHz, then check FPS at 1920 x 1200. The difference will be negligible (less than 2 FPS). Running the test @ 2.0GHz stacks the deck against the E5200.
