Who makes the Digital Research 40x CD-ROM?

Does Digital Research actually make this drive, or is it made by someone else and repackaged as a Digital Research drive? In Windows Device Manager the drive is listed as "BCD E520C." It'd be nice if I actually had a Plextor or something like that. 🙂 Thanks!

One last bump for the weeknight crowd. 🙂

Doesn't anyone even know where to start looking for information on this?

OK you caught me.I have the D.R. 40x retail box in my hand.Is there a problem with Digital Research being the manufacterer?

EDIT: I openede the box to read the manual. Here is there website and phone---888-516-0200---http://www.dr-tech.com

Thanks for that link. There's nothing wrong if they are the manufacturer, I was just hoping I had lucked out and maybe gotten a Plextor or another good drive for $20. 🙂

When running Adaptec's Easy CD Creator 4 system tests on the drive, I get the following extraction rates:
-----------
Small Files: 1x (239 KB/sec)
Large Files: 3x (596 KB/sec)
Read Speed: 3x (538 KB/sec)
Audio Extraction Speed: 1x (266 KB/sec)
-----------
As you can see, the above numbers are well below par. I immediately did the same tests on an HP 24X drive (using the same CD-ROM's) and obtained higher numbers. Has anyone conducted tests on this drive?

I am running Win 98 SE on a PII 350 machine. DMA is enabled under the drive's properties, and the Firmware revision is listed as 0.49

Thanks
