Pretty good deal going now on the visor deluxes, if the $40 off $200 coupon still works at staples. Thats where I bought mine, with the $50 rebate, I'll have like $169 in it. I like it so far, do wish it had flash rom though, cause I'll be stuck with palmOS 3.5 as long as I own it.

really depends on you and what you want out of a pda. personally i value functionality over form, so i went for a Vx over any of the bigger bulkier pda's out there. i didn't need a color screen or any of the extra features some of them tend to pad their organizers with. and as far as form went, i really liked the slim, sleek look of the Vx.

my friend has a IIIc, and all i can say is that i know from prior experience that i probably wouldn't carry around an organizer with the IIIc's dimensions. at least the Vx is thin enough for me to stick in my pocket and go about the day without being bothered. i've owned a palm pilot, a III, IIIx and a IIIxe, and the fact that the Vx is smaller than any of the III series and that its screen is sharper and clearer really makes it a keeper.

i'll admit that color is very nice. and when the next generation of palm V's come out...with 16 megs and color packed in the same design, i might just have to upgrade. :)

bah, Palm OS devices.

If you're gonna get a Palm, wait it out for OS 4 and/or some badass new hardware (check www.brighthand.com).

As for Pocket PCs (Windows CE 3.0), it's all about the Compaq iPaq (12-bit colour, 206mhz strongARM processor), the Casio EM-500 (16-bit colour, 151mhz MIPS) or the Palmax Amigo (16-bit colour, 206mhz strongARM processor).

The best place to post this kind of thread would be in a PDA specific forum, such as those available at www.brighthand.com or www.pdabuzz.com

<< Casio EM-500 (16-bit colour, 151mhz MIPS) >>

Why the EM-500? The E125 kicks its ass! Same processor, 32 megs instead of 16, and CF instead of MMC. Either of them will do for me though, I'm attempting to trade my laptop for one or the other on the FS/T boards right now.

Best part about the Casio's is that they're overclockable. Yep, that's right...people overclock their PDAs!!! :) I will too as soon as I get mine. :p

If you want multimedia and a Windows like environment (Win CE) the best one is the iPaq 3650 (~$500)(or the 3670 for an additonal 32mb RAM).

If you just want something to keep your contacts and to do list, the Palm IIIxe (~$170) is the best deal.

I like the iPAQ but they are hella hard to get.

I just found out I'm getting the new Cassiopeia from work as an award. I believe the Casio just won some PDA award from one of the geek mags. It comes with an mp3 player, got color, now has flash capability, and $499.00 extra will get you an AirCard300 for wireless web browsing and email.:p

The tech-report had a cool debate about them awhile back (couldn't find the link)

Hell, I was gonna be happy with a Linux Agenda before I heard about the company gift.

Good luck with your purchase!

So are the iPaq's, but the difference is that the iPaq is a s/w overclock. The casio, you have to OPEN it up and make mods on it, hence, voiding the warranty.

<edit> and the ipaq still o/c faster than the e-125.

i also agree on getting the e-125 because there aren't many MMC modules and they are expensive and expensive and there aren't many of them. and did i mention they are expensive? </edit>

Johnlee: Here's a thread on Brighthand forums about how to do it. Link in the first post shows you how to step by step. It's for the E125. Is that the one you're getting? Niiiice.

I didn't know the Compaq was overclockable, because I don't keep up with it. I think it's overrated.

the ipaq might be overrated, but it's damn fast and looks realy good and sleek... that thing is like a showoff, and i definitely do that when people ask what that is. :)

i like the helio's writing recognition system, but i hate it's VTOS because there are only 10 appz out there for the helio. *gurr* i gave the helio to my dad and i got a palm 3e, but my friend just told me he's going to give me his visor since he never uses it anymore. =o) personally, i have to go with the visor.

<< cool, so if i want to show off i get an ipaq eh? >>

not so much that, but the ipaq just grabs attention very easily... it's like a beautiful organizer (aestically pleasing), kinda like the Palm V, very sleek.

The reason I say EM-500 for E-125 is that the former is cheaper (if he's on a budget) and smaller. I'm a high school student: an E-125 doesn't give me an incentive to spend more money on an equivalent machine just for the extra onboard RAM and better expansion.

i guess what i really want it for is....well let me put it this way. i'm starting a new job and i need it to keep track of my appointment, contacts, need it for an alarm...pretty much everything!

now what?? i guess color isn't that important.

tkim - Unless you really NEED a color PDA I'd say it's a waste of money and battery power.

How much is your budget?
Would you prefer a Win CE (Compaq iPaq) or Palm OS device?
