I've been using Maxell's and they're ok when new, but the tip spreads out very quick. I'd like something as fine point as Sharpie's ultrafine point permanent marker that works well on CD-R's. Sharpie works ok, but it seems to fades while writing and writing isn't as dark and clear as CD-R pens and looks sorta grayish and I am also concerned about its potential effect on the media(you're not supposed to use regular permanent marker on CD-R's or so the manufacture's say, but why put your data at risk?).

So who makes fine-point marker with durable tip?

I just use Sharpies to put a little name on the disc so I can identify what it is. Then I just print labels when I get a chance. :)

I picked up some Fellowes CD Marker today. It was $4.99 for four color pack(red, green, blue and black) at Target and the tip looks much better than Maxell's I have. It's Target, so if it goes wrong within 90days, I can just take it back :D

Some people say not to use any kind of a solvent-based pen to wrtie on CDrs. I think Sharpies use a solvent basd ink.

This is from the CDr FAQ,

"Many people have had no problems with the popular Sanford "Sharpie" pens, which are alcohol-based. Other people say they've damaged discs by writing on them with a Sharpie, though those discs may have been particularly susceptible. The official word from Sanford is:

<BLOCKQUOTE>"Sanford has used Sharpie Markers on CDs for years and we have never experienced a problem. We do not believe that the Sharpie ink can affect these CDs, however we have not performed any long-term laboratory testing to verify this. We have spoken to many major CD manufacturers about this issue. They use the Sharpie Markers on CDs internally as well, and do not believe that the Sharpie Ink will cause any harm to their products. "

that is a copy paste off that link u gave. thanks. ;)</BLOCKQUOTE>

I use a TDK pen my self which I bought at K-mart in my area at the time. Now they don't carry them any more or any other stores in my area.

Another vote for sharpies. They are fine enough for me, they are soft enough not to mar the disc and they dry fast so they never smear on me.

I LOVE the creative CDR pen that came with my Creative CDRW a few years back, been using it forever (three years at least). Excellent tip and lasts forever. Can't tell you where you can find another one, or who made it but I like it the best (Tried sharpies and their ends flatten too soon). Hope it never dries up :D
