Callebaut Bittersweet
Valrhona Noir Amer
both are fit to eat straight and are the highest quality chocolate I know of at any price in the world.

Otherwise try
typical candy chocolate like Godiva:

ooooo....yeah....Leonidas and Neuhaus! 😀

Oh I miss those business trips to Belgium. Nothing like chocolate from the source. The Neuhaus pieces that are chocolate mousse inside with a thin layer of white chocolate on the bottom....oh dman! I'm salivating!!!

Valrhona

the other stuff is ok..but it's not the gold standard, valrhona is..

Agreed, but I also think Callebaut Bittersweet is as good, maybe even a fraction better.
I keep pounds of both in my kitchen.

Callebaut Bittersweet and Valrhona Noir Amer are about 70% chocolate.
Hersheys is about 20%
Ghirardelli milk chocolate is about 20%
and their dark is maybe 40%
Lindt is maybe 40% also

yes, american chocolate is like what people outside of USA feel about our WhiteBread and AmericanCheese...
particularly the Hersheys massproduced stuff.

and Godiva is big time marketing... i mean it's good, but not for what they charge... they got a big marketing budget....

it's like what some audiophiles say about Bose Audio.

Me, I like Dove Dark chocolate for cheap everyday eats, but I like Lindt dark chocolate bars for about 2.20 ea.

to the original poster of this thread, you ask about NYC, I agree with a couple of others that mention Neuhaus... or whatever it is spelled.

They are small boutique style in NYC... Belgian stuff.

They have a presence on 42nd st, right on GrandCentral Station.

Ritter Sport Olympia is the best. It's in a golden package and if you ever get it you will not be able to Stop.

Or try Ritter Sport with the Jamaican rum and raisins in it. Awesome used to eat that stuff all the time when I lived in Germany. I move from there to the US in 95 🙁 and haven't had any of that stuff since. 🙁

Nobody has mentions See's chocolate! I love their dark chocolate and truffles etc. Dark chocolate is "real" chocolate btw, stuff like Hershey's milk chocolate is crap. Also look for stuff from Belgium and Switzerland.
