With all the different makers of the 9800 which is the best. Currently im looking at sapphire, connect3d, and Gigabyte. Does anyone recommend one over another? And is it worth it to buy a 256mb over a 128mb. ill be using it for gaming wc3, hl2, and so on

Hercules, 128MB. Performance is all about the same, Hercules just makes quality, better looking boards. Only ones with RAM heat sinks I know of too.

I bought Sapphire retail because it came with RTCW and SOF2, and I didn't have either. I haven't really played either since I bought it, but I thought that was by far the best game bundle of the ones I looked at. The card I got looks exactly like an ATI Pro, down to the ATI labelling. I was expecting the round Sapphire fan after reading the reviews and the round fan art on the box.

If the cost is not a problem, I would suggest to go for a 256MB. What kind of resolution do you want to play the games also a factor to affect your decision.

I have a 20" LCD. The native resolution is 1600x1200. It would be nice if I can play games using my LCD's native resolution. Also I was able to get a PowerColor 9800Pro 256MB for a fair price. I just went ahead and got one. Very happy about my decision.

Common wisdom around here states that more than 128 meg is currently useless. Some are reasonable enough to qualify this to cards slower than the 9800.
The Half-Life 2 preview (part 2) at Firingsquad makes reference to the 9800 Pro with 256: "The RADEON 9800 PRO and 9600 PRO take huge hits with 4xAA enabled, nearly 50% at 1024x768. We were told that the 256MB RADEON 9800 PRO performs considerably better than the 128MB card in this scenario, but we didn?t have a card on hand to confirm this. "

At some point 256Meg is going to start being beneficial. That point might only be a month or so away...
