Who makes the best 10/100 36-port hub?

Bill

Wish I could make due with 24 port jobs, but I really want to avoid as much stacking as possible...

Cisco Catalyst 4000, may be a bit overkill if you only want 36 ports and not looking to expand though.

Or you could look into 3Com stuff, such as their 3900, though I've heard some of 3Com's switched have stability problems, so if it will be in a critical envoirment, you might wanna make sure you dont pick a model that has those issues(I know the SS3300 switched has problems like that).

DLink has probabaly also got something like that.

Alrighty then, I thought I'd have problems finding good 36 port autosensing hubs...guess I'll have to start stacking 24 port jobbies.

BTW, what exactly does "golden member" mean?

I think thats when you have over 1000 posts or something like that.

But one question, why do you want a hub instead of a switch?
I think even a 24 port hub would be hard to find, the biggest hub Ive ever seen was 16 ports, and sharing 100 MBit over 16 ports aint gonna be pretty if you have many people using it at once.

Well, I want the kind of hub that not only autosenses 10Mbps and 100Mbps NICs automatically, but will allow 100% of the max speed possible with the crazy mix of cards we have at the college I teach at. (Don't you just hate people that end sentences with prepositions...)

We are currently using the NetGear DS524 model and don't like it very well. It has proven to be unreliable and slow.

I recently worked with a newer Dlink series switch, basically designed from a low end cisco modular switch, But it is easily within the price range most people want, fully loaded with 4 16 port blades >64 10/100 Managed ports< it was under 3000$ It also supports Gigabit, and Fiber blades. Feel free to Private Message me for a list of where to get them.

Sounds what you want is an autosensing switch 🙂
Sounds like you just got an offer for a good deal, cept for one incident a long time ago(which was a pretty major incident, I was pissed at DLink for like a year after that), Ive had nothing but good luck with DLink stuff.
