The sound that my 12GB IMB Deskstar makes is killing me, the idle sound and the seek are both louder than the system fans...
 
i just got a hitachi 40gig and i'm happy with the sound level. now, if i could just figure out how to stop the fan from spinning up.
 
I have a couple of notebook drives.

[*]The 100GB 5400RPM Seagate Momentus notebook drive is extremely quiet during idle and seeks.
[*]The Hitachi 5K80 40GB 5400 has semi noisy seeks in addition to a slight "tick" which appears to be a firmware issue.
