I've got a cheap corded Logitech optical that was $12 + $5 shipping when I got it a couple years ago at newegg. Still working fine. Worth checking out their inexpensive mice.

$30 FOR A MOUSE IS INEXPENSIVE?!?!

I checked and it's $20, but yeah, that's inexpensive for a nice Logitech optical.

blah, another vote for the $20 MX200 logitech.

If your gf isn't going to do any serious gaming the ms mouse will be just fine.

I think you can do serious gaming with the MS Optical Wheel Mouse or am I missing something?

Are the logitechs lifetime warrantied like the MS mice are ? I'm on my 3rd one for MS and it's always been free replacement (even though it was their fault v1 and v2 were faulty in the first place)

There's nothing wrong with the MS optical wheel mouse. In fact, I prefer the "cheap" MS optical wheel mouse to the cheap Logitech equivilant. The MS mouse seems slightly more accurate. (I have one of each.)

Serious gamers may want a few more buttons, but for the basics, the MS optical wheel mouse is just fine.

(Remember, I'm comparing the two companies' bottom of the barrel, two-button+wheel-button optical offerings, not the the "better," more expensive ones.)

Are v1 and v2 MS Optical mouse designs variations of the same mouse I bought?
How do I tell which one I have?
I suppose it does not reall really matter, since MS will replace faulty ones, but it is a pain ot get the RMA mail it out etc....

The cheap ones are smaller, and to me, it makes them better than the expensive ones since they fit better. And, in the end, I think they use the same sensor, so the basic enginering is the same, and the bottom and top of the line are going to be absolutely equal in accuracy since they use the same sensor, right[i/]? Or am I missing something.

Maybe you are. Then again, maybe I am too, but I brought the fact that I was talking about the cheap mice from the two companies, because I haven't bought the more expensive ones, and I won't automatically assume that all Logitech optical mice use the exact same sensor, and I won't assume the same for MS either.

My Logitech mouse has been sitting unused in a drawer for several months now.

The proof (for me) was in using both back to back. I happen to prefer my MS "cheapo" to my Logitech "cheapo," because when I moved the cheap Logitech quickly, it seemed like it would "skip a beat" or two more readily than the cheap MS mouse, hence, my comment about accuracy. (I also find the shape of the MS mouse more comfortable to my hand than that of the Logitech, but that's definitely a personal preference, so I didn't originally bring it up.)

I've been using a vanilla MS Optical Wheel Mouse for a few years now, since the Wal-Mart near me had them on clearance for $10. I've played through a number of games (not really a "serious" or "hardcore" gamer anymore) and it's done fine by me.
