Was it the Polish or the Ukranian(Varenyky)??? I can't seem to find it out for myself. Anyone have any dates or actual facts to backup who was first?

Or lets just vote!

I have seen these perogies mentioned several times now, mostly in the context of being yummy...

Where can I get/buy/taste some?

(I'm in Baltimore, MD)

probably yer local supermarket I would think. They're usually made with potato and most commonly filled with cheddar cheese. They kinda look like ravioli almost... like the potato shell of the perogie looks like it's made of pasta.

They were first created by a Pol named Stanislov Gapinski back in the early 800's . Seeing as such, I think they are Polish

I don't know which people besides the Poles invented it, but people came before pierogi or the smaller pieroszki. Unlike the chicken egg argument, this one is much easier. I know that people came before perogies because people make perogies, but perogies don't make people. By the way, that's the proper Polish spelling and it's already plural. One is a pirog or a pieroszek, but who wants just one.
