<< my parents came to america about 15 years ago when i was 3 with no more than a hundred dollars and a plane ticket from Poland. Now we live in a $400,000 house in the suburbs. If that doesn't make this a great country I don't know what does. >>
no, that's specifically why america isn't a great country. while you may be living in luxury in your $400,000 dollar house, your parents former country persons are mostly likely living in relative squalor, and worse yet people all over the world are living in utter abject poverty, because people like US (i'm no exception) make up 30% of the worlds population yet use 70% of the worlds resources. overconsumption is bad mmmkay... >>
not exactly. We visit the "motherland" lol every couple of years, and everyone in my immediate family is well off. I guess it's because my entire family has a strong sense of the individual business... i can't think of anyone who works for somebody else in my family in poland. BUt alot of my family also lives on the farms out in the country, but they're happy where they are.
the point is you can be anything you want to be, but it's not easy. Anyone in poland could do what my parents did, it's just up to the individual. If you don't like being poor, then get your ass together. But i will agree that a lot of people are stuck in poverty, and there's not much of a chance to get on your feet.
