i have lived in new orleans almost my entire life and whenever i visit a city and we go out drinking, there is always something called a "last call". after 2am you cant even buy beer at a grocery store and certain areas dont even sell it so we have to go home. but here, i can walk into my local walmart at 2am and buy as much beer and liquor i dcan carry out. why is that?

that's the way it is in most smaller towns. "last call for alcohol" - i hear it all the time when the clock strikes two.

In Los Angeles, you can't serve alcohol past 2am. Most places stop serving around 1:30am so they can kick your ass out of the place by 2am.

I don't know if there's an official time after which you can't buy alcohol, but most of the bars in my city close around 3 am... last call is at 2 am, and people start getting thrown out around 2:30 am.

Because some places believe in this thing called 'personal responsibility' where you can buy whatever you want (assuming you aren't a minor) whenever you want.

Most bars I've been to are 2am here in Philly...PA law also forbids alcohol sales at places like walmart, 7-11, etc.

our last call is when the last person leaves or when the sun comes up. and then u can go to the store and get more if needed. 🙂

Ah...how I miss watching the sun rise from a comfy barstool at Igors and welcoming the morning with a tasty bloody mary...

same here. but i know a few joints where i know the owner and a few select people get to hang out and drink afterwards.

but they better not make it that we cant buy alcohol on sundays. i dont mind the 2am cut-off, but they better not take sundays away from us.

Last call is 2am here (Gainesville FL). You also can't buy alcohol before 1pm on Sunday..😕
