Who listens to vinyl???

I have a sudden urge to buy an old record player!
What is a good brand from years/decades ago? I want a player that can prove it's worth as a contender to the CD, yet I have a very very tight budget... I went to an AV store last week and they had players in the $1000s range... way outta my league. I'm thinking more like a pawn shop lol

You can get turntables for like $75 and you would just need to hook up some speakers to them. Yes, I listen to vinyl, mostly classic rock albums such as Styx, Quuen, Aerosmith and others.

Apparently the Technics SL-1200 Mk2 is an amazing machine, although I know nothing about it, or any kind of turntables or anything in that field. Just heard they're nice.

edit: my research shows that they can sell for ~$500

yeah, check garage sales or pawn shops

tricky part might be to get some needles for it
good luck

That's DJ equip but suffices nicely for those wanting to digitize their collection. 🙂

I do, but my turntable was a freebie, so it's not the best. Most of my records were freebies or purchased at thrift stores. I did get Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, and the Wall in pristine shape from a buddy for $15 though.

While the 1200s are awesome DJ turntables, if all one wants to do is listen to high quality music there are much better choices.

i had a turntable for years. but then that was because my dad gave it to me. he loves listening to vinyl whenever he can.

I have a pretty badass Edison Diamond Disc A-250. It sounds amazing, especially when you consider that it is NINETY years old!

Of course it uses proprietary discs that are vertically cut and play at 80RPM, so I still need to get around to getting a modern turntable for my vast collection of modern discs.

You can spend about 500 bucks and get a decent one. Well worth it.

Rega and Music Hall rule the sub 1000 dollar table market IMHO.

What on earth is that??

I just sold my B&O turntable Beogram RX something or other and about 100 albums
Pretty much 80's stuff for $50

I wonder what I could have Ebay'd it for?

Depends on the records. My buddy ebayed the rest his record collection, and there's a few that fetched $20-40 each.

Look for a Dual 505. A good quality player for not much money.
A classic.

That's how recorded music worked in the early 1900s.

I have a pair of SL-1210M5Gs... (Yup...I'm a DJ)

Fantastic tables and I do use them for the occasional aural stimulation when I'm not at a gig/studio/etc. I prefer it over CDs without a doubt.

Why all the expense? My circa '80s Onkyo was $25 at a swapmeet plus $10 for a belt and $65 for a cartridge. Sound quality is great. I don't think the OP wants audiophile quality here.

I still purchase music on vinyl, for djing purposes. I also have a HUGE collection of classic rock, 80s, soundtracks and everything under the sun.

I have 4 technic 1200s, but thoes are dj turntables and you really don't need them for just regular listening.
