Simple question for Firefox users. If you're not a Firefox user, please don't vote.

I'm just curious to know what people think of it. The following page includes a video showing the new download manager:
https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2013/04/02/firefox-gives-you-more-control-over-your-privacy/

I switched back to the old download manager after I gave the new one a short chance.

I couldn't think of a relevant sub-forum to post this in, as we don't seem to have a general software / cross-platform software sub-forum.

I like it. It shows what I immediately need to see without a dedicated window. If I want a dedicated window, it's 2 button clicks away.

I like it. The icon is pretty small but just the right degree of conspicuous when a download is going. The detailed window is cleaner as well.

Why click? CTRL+J !

I have my browser setup to reduce keyboard usage. If I can click I usually do. That's one of my big pissoffs with Chromium. There's no zoom buttons. You have to use the keyboard to zoom, or dig through menus.

In Google Chrome, there are zoom buttons one click away in the menu. I prefer ctrl + scroll wheel to zoom.

Is that new? Seems like I tried it before, and the menu would collapse after one click. It works now :^/

No idea. I've never used it before.

What do you have against using the keyboard. My left hand rarely leaves the keyboard, so something like "ctrl + scroll wheel" is really convenient for me.

Well, my bedroom machine is next to my bed, and my keyboard is a couple feet away. I have to reach over and pick it up to use it. That isn't a problem if I'm doing keyboardy things, and have it parked in my lap, but for a one-off it's just a nuisance.

Cant stand it. Closed all my Firefox windows? Guess that means I wanted to cancel all my downloads too!

Give me the standalone window back that kept the process (and my downloads) running even when I close the last firefox window I was reading. Keeping an extra page open just to facilitate downloads is stupid, and I dunno if they changed the settings or something but it doesnt even warn me.

I don't have a problem with it. I find it intuative and well placed. Certainly easier than going through the menu system to get to it.

Thumbs up from me!

I use Internet Download Manager since ages so I don't care about any browser sucky downloader
That's funny, i picked up a copy of that last week. It's really quite nice, much better than Download Accelerator Plus which i've had a license for the last couple of years.

wish firefox had downloads in a seperate process like IE.
cant tell you how many times ive closed my last browser window and killed non-resumable downloads in progress. 🙁

Don't close the browser. I only restart it to update addons, or restart the computer.

unacceptable. I put my toys away when I am done with them. I close every app when i have finished with it.

Mozilla used to do this... why the backwards change loss of a feature.

:shrugs: It shouldn't be difficult to write an addon that warns about current downloads. That should probably be built in though. They warn by default when closing multiple tabs(which I turn off). Warning about pending downloads seems more important since it isn't always obvious you have something going, unlike a window full of tabs.

At first I didn't like it, because I wanted to go through the UI I was used to, but I actually really like it, now that I've used for awhile. It strikes a good balance between minimalism and crazy UI. Chrome's download bar takes up valuable vertical space, but then goes away after you click something in it. The old FF download UI, though, was always slow to load the details of all the downloads, and you either didn't see anything, or had to have it pop up and take focus.

My mom started something downloading 10 times because she didn't see the download window.

At first I found it irritating because I didn't know something was downloading. But now it's actually easier to use this over the old one. That's at work.

At home I use Google Chrome and jDownloader.
