Esteemed members of the forum:
------------------------------------
I need some input on the Viewsonic A70 and the A75f. Both are 17", 16" viewable, Shadow Mask(.26mm) and Aperture Grille(.25mm) respectively. I can afford both, but I need opinions!! I am giving up on the Samsung 753DF, in which I have tried TWO and both had blurry display problems. To heck with those.

I am kinda particular about text focusing and brightness, but as long as it isn't FUZZY or BLURRY I will be happy. I also will use the monitor for games as well. But basically I am looking for the monitor that will be the best to me and my eyes, and will last longer. How is Viewsonic's customer service anyway? Are they good about defective monitors? Also could you tell me where is a good RETAIL store to get monitors?

Or if you don't like Viewsonic Monitors, how about a good monitor under $220.00?

DESPARATE AND TIRED!!!
Thanks everyone!!

I love ViewSonic monitors. I have a 19" PS790-2. It cost me about $1400 Canadian when it first came out a few years back, and it is still running great. I will only be replacing it with another ViewSonic, once I have enough room for a 22 inch monster :)

if you want flat shadow mask type,
you could try NEC AS70F, Philips 107T, Samsung 755DF,
all are under $220 from egghead, free shipping.

I have a viewsonic PF790, and for the fuzziness, I have none.

It's crystal clear..

I love mine, and would recommend another one in a heart beat...

They seem to be good quality...

Whew, some of those monitors are a bit pricey for what I need right now...(maybe when I can land that cushy job in 3 years)

I am leaning towards the Viewsonic A75F ($200.00 w/ rebate). The price point looks good, the specs are within what I am looking for, I just need that word of mouth endorsement for that final go. I mean, god forbid the salespeople give you any relevant advice or know anything. So keep the comments coming!!!!!

I have been using a Viewsonic A70 for a couple of years now, and it's been a great monitor for the price. Text is certainly not blurry compared to other cheap 17" monitors. I didn't know it was still in production. For the same price I paid a couple of years ago, you can one of the newer flat screen 17 inchers, might be a bit better. Can't tell you anything about their customer service because mine's been trouble free.

Yeah, those models are still in production, and they've been around since September of 1999. Hmm, I wonder if that has a bearing on whether they've had the time to redistribute those monitors as refurbs to the stores....I don't want a refurbed monitor.

I'm very happy with my Philips 107S monitor. I've had no problems with text or graphics looking blurry, fuzzy, or washed out. In my opinion it looks better than a lot of the more expensive flat-screen displays. Best Buy has them on sale for $179 - $50 mail-in rebate = $129.99 + tax.

Definitely within your budget! :)

Nick, how long have you had the 107S for? I'll definitely look into it since there is a positive word on it. The price doesn't hurt either.

I've had the 107S for about 3 months now. Even though its a standard CRT display, I haven't had any problems with glare or geometry settings. One thing you should be aware of, though, is that the maximum resolution is 1280x1024 @ 60Hz. I run this resolution, and have no qualms with the 60Hz. refresh rate, but I thought you ought to know.

If i were to buy a 17" i would definatly get a KDS AV-7TF. It can be had for about $165.00 or so shipped from staples. I looked at them at best buy and at office Depot, and they clearly looked better than any other monitor next to it. I posted a question about a week ago. " How long have you Owned your KDS?" All responses were positive. Do a search for KDS and you will find it. Trinitron apeture grille is the way to go IMO. and for the price you can't go wrong.

The AV = Avitron (which is actually Trinitron)
and the TF = True Flat
