I really wish more companies would make TEC units, for those of you don't know what it is, go to wikipedia and put in Peltier effect. So anyways I don't know if I like my current TEC unit, might stick it in a budget system for a friend or something if I can find a new one, anyone know some that aren't water based?

Well I saw an air one for like $60, however it didn't even match up with my current one :/

No..

Dont even mess with TEC's unless you know exactly what they are.

Also, they have a set limit on how well they can cool. And if your talking about the Monsoon vigor, or the Hyper, No... they blow. A Ultra120 Extreme will match it.

Also the Coolit product... ABSOLUTE CRAP. Ultra120 Extreme once again will match it and RAPE it at voltage 1.375-1.4 on a quadcore Fully Loaded. But the tec will have a better idle, but use MORE power then the ultra.

On a dualcore, if you heavily overclock, you can still overshoot some TEC products. Just stick with AIR solo. Dont mesh it.

Tec's have a set raiting on how much heat you can move. If the hotside isnt cooled enough or your heat load wattage is too high, you over shoot your tec.

Also a 60W tec @ full power will move around 60W theoretically but use an addition 80% POWER to do so so you now need to cool 60+48W on the hotside. For only 60W of cooling. So there terribly unefficient.

I know what TEC is, just wanted to know who else did :p in any case my current TEC is fine, I might actually get a new case and follow your guide and start up on water :p

yeah but, they work really well for regulating temperatures and have great consistancy when done properly. Used to use commercial 1000W+ TECs that flipped hot and cold side from +100C to -100C or visa versa to regulate temperatures when using certain chemicals in lasers. Could keep the main projector on a Yag laser at 10C that was LN cooled from off all the way through a burn and back down to off. I totally agree that they're hugely inneficient at cooling but, they're very good for temperature regulation when combined with other heating and cooling sources.

I wish they'd make a powerful TEC cpu cooler, even if it was an energy hog if it ran really well and was able to drop cpu temps lower than water+peltier, then depending on the price there would be a large migration to TEC :p

http://www.xtremesystems.org/f...howthread.php?t=172946

i decided to ditch the radiator. Im going to use 4 x 90W tec's and downvolt them for more efficiency.

i should be able to pull about 260-270W out of the water each pass. The cpu shouldnt put out more then 190-230W. So the water should cool down very very very slowly.

Hotside will probably be cooled by an MCR320. :T

But yeah... im already at the final step of where you want to be at. :T

Yeah I meant to say TEC cpu air cooler, in any case I like what aigo's going to do, seems fun, make sure you post pics and temps when you finish :D
