Who knows Monitor Care?

What are the advantages to using a Screen Saver as opposed to turning the monitor off when the computer is not in use? Does it hurt the monitor to turn it off when you know you are gonna be away from your computer? Or is it better to activate the screen saver? What about the power scheme settings?

What about speakers around your monitor? How far should they be AWAY from the monitor so as not to ruin it by the "magnetic interference" or whatever...

What about keeping the area around the monitor open for ventilation?

I am a paraniod sucker about my monitor, expecially when you already lost one monitor due to "unknown" causes.

Thanks!!!

Well in my opinion, and correct me if I am wrong, the screen saver is in place only to advantage those who must(or want to) keep there moniters turned on at all times. The only down fall I can see of turning the moniter off is wearing out the spring in the power button.

I dunno, maybe by turning on and off the monitor it hurts the components unneccesarily. For instance, you wouldn't want to start up your car and then shut it off and start it back up again if you didn't have to...you'd probably want to keep it running if you could, right? I was wodering if that held true with a monitor.

Running a screen saver uses up CPU cycles. Using power management schemes can wear a monitor out more quickly because it stresses the internal components a lot more than just shutting it off. Only turn your monitor off if you are going to be away from it for a long period of time--say, twelve hours or more. Don't turn it off and then back on again repeatedly during the day/night because you'll wear it out even quicker.

I wouldn't worry too much about your speakers unless they are really cheap ones that don't have good shielding. I would keep them off the top of it; you aren't getting proper channel separation by doing that and, IMO, looks stupid. 😛

Well, the only way I could see it Mrchip is that if you keep your car running all the time your miles would start to build up and the engine(processor would die faster). Only my view, could be wrong!!
