And now that the federal government has taken over the student loan industry, I'd say this will be happening more in the future.

http://www.news10.net/news/article/141072/2/Dept-of-Education-breaks-down-Stockton-mans-door

STOCKTON, CA - Kenneth Wright does not have a criminal record and he had no reason to believe a S.W.A.T team would be breaking down his door at 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

"I look out of my window and I see 15 police officers," Wright said.

Wright came downstairs in his boxer shorts as a S.W.A.T team barged through his front door. Wright said an officer grabbed him by the neck and led him outside on his front lawn.

"He had his knee on my back and I had no idea why they were there," Wright said.

According to Wright, officers also woke his three young children ages 3, 7, and 11 and put them in a Stockton police patrol car with him. Officers then searched his house.

As it turned out, the person law enforcement was looking for was not there - Wright's estranged wife.

"They put me in handcuffs in that hot patrol car for six hours, traumatizing my kids," Wright said.

Wright said he later went to the mayor and Stockton Police Department, but the City of Stockton had nothing to do with Wright's search warrant.

The U.S. Department of Education issued the search and called in the S.W.A.T for his wife's defaulted student loans.

"They busted down my door for this," Wright said. "It wasn't even me."

According to the Department of Education's Office of the Inspector General, the case can't be discussed publicly until it is closed, but a spokesperson did confirm that the department did issue the search warrant at Wright's home.

The Office of the Inspector General has a law enforcement branch of federal agents that carry out search warrants and investigations.

Stockton Police Department said it was asked by federal agents to provide one officer and one patrol car just for a police presence when carrying out the search warrant.

Stockton police did not participate in breaking Wright's door, handcuffing him, or searching his home.

"All I want is an apology for me and my kids and for them to get me a new door," Wright said.

Hahaha, and by 'taken over the student loan industry' you mean 'no longer providing corporate welfare to banks'.

Of course the federal government should be giving guaranteed loans and guaranteed profits to banks lending to students as a matter of day to day policy, to do anything but that would be a government takeover.

Golly, this Obama administration is getting to be more and more like a Police state. I wonder if they'll be breaking down doors if you don't pay the fine, er, fee, er, tax for not subcribing to Obamacare?

Soon there probably won't be any agencies that don't have their own SWAT team to serve no knock warrants.

Department of the Interior has a SWAT team, Indian affairs has one... pretty much everyone has one. It gets them extra money, cool guns and let's them play Army without the risk.

I'm guessing there is more to the story than published, but I'm at a loss as to what it is. After all there are probably many thousands, maybe millions of people of people in default on student loans. Maybe the wife was involved in some sort of fraudulent scam or something, but even so would that justify bringing out a SWAT squad?

I agree. What makes her case different from the other thousands out there?

^ Yeah, I can't possibly believe that a SWAT team arrived to collect on unpaid student debt. That's nuts, there's clearly more to the story. Terrible fucking journalism.

Btw, I like how a few tards here took this story at face value, lol.

Since we apparently can't fine ONE SINGLE DIME to cut from Federal spending. I can think of SOMETHING. Now just multiply this type of bullshit times the # of government agencies and BAM - Balanced Budget.

AFAIK Obama personally authorized this raid. They flew in special stealth helicopters. Stockton police were NOT notified prior to the raid.

Now now. Tha vast majority of the right made it abundantly clear that Obama should be given absolutely no credit for bin Laden and Kashmiri being killed since that was all deserved by the executing agencies so those same people surely wouldn't be in here giving him full responsibility for this. That would just be pathetically hypocritical...

Technically if Hubby was married to his ex-wife at the time she took out the student loan, ole Hubby may be wholly or partially liable for the debt.

But still, a SWAT team is not necessary in this type of a case, maybe surprise may be needed in a drug raid to prevent the drugs being flushed down the toilet or in cases where
people might shoot back, but neither case applies to student loans even if fraudulent.

Can you name me one possible scenario that something involving a student loan would require a SWAT team to knock down someones door and violently raid the house looking for them?

Sure; if she were part of a large student loan embezzlement scheme that crossed state lines that would therefore require federal intervention. Not that hard to come up with.

But with that extent of fraud, one would think the idiots who sent the Swat team would wonder if the person lies about student loans, the address they gave might be fraudulent.

All the fraud has to do is find an address not well monitored, find out when the mail is delivered daily, as soon as the mail is delivered, check the mailbox, and retrieve the check for the new Student loan

For all we know, First's address might be the next address to be used.
