I'll be interested to see it, but one thing that struck me from the preview was the conventional beauty and light-skin of the "good" characters, the teacher and the social worker. Contrast that with the the non-conventionally attractive appearance and dark skin of the lead and her mother. I never like it when appearance is associated with character, and hardly see this as a coincidence.
And yet 99% of the people that see this movie will never have that thought enter their head. Also, for the 1% that do realize that, about a tenth of them will make a big deal about it, claim it's racist, and demand that African Americans be more diversified in the roles they play in movies.
In the end, nothing will come of it, these words I've typed will have been forgotten, and we'll have long since returned to neffing. Why? Because neffing is what we do best.
