35% of State employees in Illinois are on workers comp.

http://globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com/2011/04/25000-out-of-70000-illinois-state.html

No wonder the state has such a budget deficit. You hire one union guy to work for the state, move him to workers comp pay him 2/3 salary, then hire a union replacement.

There is one prison facility in Illinois were 390 workers got about $25,000 each in claims.. almost half claimed the injury was from locking and unlocking doors.

You just have to love those Illinois politics.

The ultimate form of government regulation, state ownership, has failed to provide a safe working environment in Illinois.

Any private industry regulated by OSHA currently suffering from 35% workers' comp?

Madison County, Illinois, was the Law Suit Capital of the United States. It is often the Judges that award Workmans Comp

Even though half of Illinois lives around Chicago a lot of this is just pure greed. It has nothing to do with a safe working environment. Do you think government jobs are that strenuous? How much work is there to riding an elevator and sitting at a desk?

It is all a joke. If the government is willing to pay they will file more claims. However, when the economy is bad and you pay a lot of taxes and a house in chicago costs about $400,000, then people have to work longer. You can expect costs to increase as the age for SS rises. I see lots of women working longer just so their husbands have insurance. With age you can expect more injuries to legs, hips, ankles, shoulders. Keep that in mind when you want to raise the retirement age??? Also people with different body types tend to put weight on in different parts of their bodies. Some people put more weight on their gut and some put more weight on their hips and arms. When you look at society and you see that there are a lot of women raising children on their own you have to realize that life can be hard and rough on women of single parent households. Part of what is to blame is welfare here. Quit paying women to have kids with no husbands, and maybe more families will have 2 bread-winners at home.

Typical Illinois. I'd love to see someone find any large private company that has 35% of their workers on workman comp. They'd be out of business in no time. Not the government, they'll just raise taxes or deficit spend into oblivion.

You are suggesting that we repeal workers comp?
No...how did you ever come to that conclusion? There's obviously a problem here with both frequency and severity...which is highly 'unusual' as office workers are normally considered very low risk. Hmmm...makes one think.

I bet even though they are on workers comp, they are still making double holiday overtime 36 hours per day. :p

Perhaps a little common sense is the answer.

Common sense to who? Someone with a whackjob sociopathic angry view of society from being ashamed of themselves in life?

Savage's common sense is the sense of the victim who makes a living from self-projection. One he has made himself into. He was a cool guy at some point. Hopefully he can forgive himself and his friends soon and come back from the dark side. He is a disturbed person, why do you guys feed it?

I have been reading beatnik era type stuff for ages and when I hear the guy now it is so sad to hear him losing it like that. Michael Savage need a intervention from his friends who care about him, not a radio show.

He is embarrassing to himself and his former companions he uses the legacy of to promote division and hate.

No one is advocating taking away workers comp... it is curious why workers compensation payouts per procedure are 2 -3X the costs of other states. Would it not concern you that 35% of your workforce is on workers comp?

Businesses in Illinois also see the states excessive payouts as a problem. Private businesses also have to pay that very high rate on these claims for the privilege of doing business in Illinois. Of course when Republican legislators try to reign that in... they get attacked by the left claiming an attempt to take away workers comp.

Consider it an attempt to end the free money party.

It appears that you're talking about Michael Savage. FYI...Doc Savage is a science detective from pulp fiction during the 30's and 40's. Me thinks you're confused.

Your first comment linked above is how I came to that conclusion. You apparently believe this is a Democratic vs. Republican issue (yet again) so I made the assumption that you concluded it was the exsitence of workers comp that was the problem. Otherwise your smear on Democrats makes absolutely no sense.

There is a lot of fail in this thread about workers comp. One poster whined about the courts-workers comp is an administrative remedy and never reaches the courts except in the very rare case where a legal issue is presented (like is the injury covered by workers comp at all).

IF (and that's a huge IF) the facts cited it the opinion piece cited by the OP are correct then IL has a substantial problem with its implementation of workers comp. But that piece is so sparse on facts and so heavy on conclusions I have grave doubts.

Unfortunately the blog piece cited by the OP took a pretty complex issue and attempts to reduce it to bumper slogan analysis.

Why is it always a "progressive" who insults forum members by calling out other members as fags? More to the point, I thought gay slurs were against the rules here. I guess some people are immune to the rules, people like steeplerot.
