Who is your favorite philosopher?

He (or she) can be from any time period (ancient Greece, medieval, contemporary, etc.).

My favorite is Aristotle. I like his practical approach and, like me, he stuttered. :)

I like the old school Greek dudes. They liked to talk about people and their behavior instead of all this high brow crap modern philosophers study now. Like in my sig for example. Modern philosophers would tear that sentence apart and try to get at the "real" meaning and determine if it's true or not, logically consistent, blah blah blah. But those Greek dudes were straight up street philosophers who just state their opinions and experiences and don't worry about pissing people off or seeing whether it was absolutely true.

Yeah street philsophers are cool.

He was Tolkien's best friend - got to read LOTR before it was published. :) He wound up writing lits bits of LOTR trivia into his space trilogy. The fiction's fun, but his best stuff is his non fiction.
