While not my current fav, this is a good choice, I approve.
 
its cyclical for me. My top 10 more ore less stays the same but they rotate in and out of the #1 spot. Sometimes i just go on spurts where its just nothing but outkast for weeks at a time....then it will be sublime for two months and then xyz.....etc
 
Matthew Good is a genius; I applaud your choice.

As for me, no one has ever topped Metallica in terms of sheer musical connection. Their older stuff, especially, with a few newer songs, just reach me on a level that few other bands have done. Orion is so magnificently written that I get goosebumps every time I hear it; same with fade to Black and One and many other songs. Say what you will about Metallica, but in their day they were brilliant songwriters and Cliff Burton was a riff-writing god.

Right now, Dream Theater and Opeth are up there too. Opeth in particular also seem to have that little subtle thing about them that just makes chills run down my spine. The riffs, the lyrics, the whole atmopshere of their music is astounding. I love how they can play a single note or chord and a whole wall of emotion is conveyed. Just listen to The Drapery Falls and tell me you can't hear the emotion dripping off every note.
 
If I said I have a favorite I'd be lying. But G.O.L, Tangerine Dream and Aschera are amongst the few that hit me deep.

Orion is definitely one of my all-time favorite songs, bar none.
 
My top 2 - Guns N' Roses and The Mars Volta. I've especially been into TMV lately, their music is pure art.
