if you don't know anything about him, stay the heck out of the thread - this guy has pitched, and beaten, the MLB all-star team in japan in each of the last two seasons. He was the MVP of last spring's World Baseball Classic, which had plenty of Major-league talent in it. He's legit, period.

If he's so good, why does he have the nick, 'Dice-K'?

You've got the sultan of swat, stan the man, shoeless joe, the rocket, etc., all legit nicks.

I vote to demote him to the minors, until he aquires a 'worthy' nick.

obviously you missed the part where it was explained that that's how you pronouce his real name.

I'm aware of that...but what the hail is the value of a nickname that sounds just like your real name?

'Hi, I'm Jim...but folks around here just call me Gym.' :D

I'm a Sox fan, and the guy is still in need of proving himself. Pitchers can fair very well when they go against batters who have never seen them before. Once the batter has seen their stuff a few times, they learn what to expect and then you really see what the pitcher can do. The Japanese league also does not offer the same depth of batters as you will find on teams in the American leagues.
