I heard somebody did something somewhere too. Sometime. And someone is looking into it or like that.

Someone was appointed to oversee the FBI... while being investigated for corruption by the FBI... and how is this at all surprising?

Found the story you must be thinking of: Fox News
"WASHINGTON ? House Democrats chose Rep. Alan Mollohan, D-W.Va., on Wednesday to head the appropriations subcommittee in charge of the budget for the Justice Department, which is investigating him for questionable land deals."

"Mollohan told members of the House Appropriations Committee last week that he will recuse himself from debate over the Justice Department budget, an effort to sidestep ethics questions relating to his elevation to "cardinal," one of 10 appropriations subcommittee chairman. The West Virginia Democrat will serve as chairman of the House Appropriations Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Subcommittee.

"To make certain that there is no basis for criticism of my service on the CJS Subcommittee, I have decided to recuse myself from any related Justice Department accounts," Mollohan said in a statement issued last week after questions were raised about the conflict. "I have written a letter to the chairman that details the recusal. I trust this will alleviate any legitimate concerns about my service."

---

From another article, he was next in line for the post based on the house's seniority system, so it's more accurate to say "Pelosi did nothing to stop it" rather than implying she actively chose him.

He does sound like another corrupt member of congress that ought to be in prison, along with most of his fellow R's and D's in the House.

William Jefferson, Dem, and yes, the people in his district who voted for him should be ashamed :|

Tip: Use Google to look this stuff up before starting threads, and I won't be forced to mock you for excessive vagueness :)

Why is it that if the scandal involves some minor amount of sex or money---we are howling for the persons scalp----but if it involves mere incompetence and pure stupidity---such as peeing 350 billion down a rat hole in Iraq-- we elect them time after time.---lets see---calculator time ---90,000 goes into 350 billion only 38.9 million times or so.

No wonder we have an incompetent leadership.

As to the tone of this thread---its clearly an attempt to show the democrats are not perfect either---BUT THAT IN NO WAY EXCUSES THE REPUBLICANS WHO HAVE ELEVATED
CORRUPTION, STUPIDITY, AND BAD SOCIAL POLICY TO A UNPRECEDENTED LOW.

And I still don't quite get the story here--looks like the dem is doing the ethical thing by recursing himself and avoiding a conflict of interest. Just as a judge should recuse himself from a case where he has a financial stake in the outcome.
