IMHO this sh!t is just too barbaric. Yes these dudes are tough and could whip my ass no problem. I just find this all a little too extreme. When these guys start getting older and suffer short or long term memory loss. Will it really be worth it? I am not saying all of them will but the brain and skull were not made to take a foot of knee with such a high impact.

If you're good then you wouldn't have to worry about getting your butt kicked and suffer from future mental and physical problems.;)

Not in Pride.

Pride is for the elite, UFC is just second rate. I can't stand the UFC. Just awful.

Not a problem, you don't have to watch it.

I understand where you are coming from, but it is a lot more regulated now. It used to be no weight classes, no rules, no rounds, you go until a guy is knocked out or quits. Now they have weight classes, they have rules, they have judges, etc. Plus the ref can stop the fight at any time if he feels the guy cannot intelligently defend himself. It is much more a sport now than it used to be. And I guarantee that old boxers are FAR worse off than old MMA. Boxers take 100s of shots to the head per fight whereas a MMA fighter probably gets kit 100 times in the head in their career.

Some cool guys to check out:

Fedor Emelianenko
Aleksander Emelianenko (Fedor's brother...scary looking dude)
Mirko "Crocop" Filipovic
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira --- aka Minotauro --- aka Big Nog
Wanderlei Silva
Mark Kerr (old days...now he was a roided up maniac)
Matt Hughes (good slams)
Chuck Liddell
Andy Hug (has some sweet axe kicks)
Bob Sapp (HUGE but slow fighter, watch him cry when Crocop breaks his eye socket with a punch)
Kazushi Sakuraba -- aka The Gracie Hunter

FUNNY guys:
Joe Son (remember the chinese shoe thrower from Austin Powers?)
Viacheslav Datsik (friggin' hilarious)

Why do people think that Pride is so much better? UFC has extended theo ffer to let their champs fight against the Pride champs. Pride is to scared to let them fight because they are worried that the UFC would definitely be looked at as the premiere arena if they lost. Chuck is a great fighter and I have confidence in him beating anyone Pride could put in front of him. I look forward to the Tito vs Chuck fight!

I used to think Chuck was the end all but not after this thread and looking up some of the names posted here. I am not saying he is a punk, because he is a badass, but you know.

Chuck is a badass at 205 lbs and he's basically ranked #1 there regardless of organization. However guys like Fedor, CroCop, Big Nog, are all HeavyWeights, so they are at least 20 lbs heavy than Chuck. It's pretty much agreed that Fedor is the best fighter in the world, CroCop or BigNog are #2. CroCop is scarier but Big Nog beat him, although he did get the crap kicked out of him for 10 minutes before he finally got a armbar submission.

Chucks not the end all, not even close, not even in UFC. Hes just been lucky enough to not be caught yet. He is an amazing striker but he lacks in a lot of areas.

These are the types of clueless guys that LOVE the UFC. Pride invited Chuck Liddell to Pride and he couldn't even make it past the second round in the tournament.

Yup, I think of the analogy that UFC is like commercialized Tae Kwon Do vs Pride as underground Muy Thai KB. ;)

Ok, I'm not a Pride or UFC hugger, I can appreciate them both. But let's be honest. Chuck is good. When he got beat in pride it was in 2003. Also read my previous post. Chuck beat Tito who beat Silva who beat Jackson who beat Chuck. In that same tournemnt, Chuck beat Overeem, who also beat Silva. The lists like this go on and on

My big problem with Pride is the ring. I HATE it when the ref stands the fighters up and puts them back in the center of the ring. Totally throws off the flow of the fight for me. The octagon lets the fighters stay where they are until the ref stands them up for not advancing.

Pride has some brutal matches compared to the stuff on UFC, so watching that first Pride match with Chuck against Quentin 'Rampage' Jackson I thought, mannn, this dude is gonna get lit up by Chuck. Quite the opposite, as Chuck's corner threw in the towel before he got hurt seriously by one of Rampage's patented belly suplex splashes. Chuck got manhandled like I have never seen in UFC, so thats what made Pride interesting to watch.
Even so, Jackson got whupped by Valdelay Silva several times, so consider him the top middleweight .... nobody in UFC would put up much of a fight there.
Best Heavyweight is Fedor, by far. The only competition I really see for Fedor is his freakin' brother !!! Pride matches are based in Japan so the pay is better, but it is funny to see these 'world' fighters show up in Pride to test themselves, only to get carted out soon after.

.

Please read previous posts. You do realize that Silva got beat by Tito and Belfort IN THE UFC and Chuck has beaten both of them. So to say that nobody in the UFC would put up a fight is just not true. It's all about how they match up with each other. And for the record, only Chuck, Tito, and Babalu would fare well in Pride. However if some of the Pride guys came to UFC they'd be in for a shock to b/c the UFC houses most of the best wrestlers. All's that to say is both Pride and UFC have some bad mofos who can beat each other on any given day.

So I've never watched Pride but I watched those clips and I wish the UFC would take some of those rules. UFC seems to be on the ground WAY to much. It gets old watching guys role around for 15 minutes. In a real fight if someone goes down you are going to try and get up and kick them in the head and stomp on them. Now I'm no bad ass and any of the guys in any fighting league would stomp my ass but it just seems that the UFC is way to geared to be a wrestling match while Pride seems to be more of a real street type fight.

UFC rules favor ground and Pride favors standup. You can't compare the organizations to each other, but you can take individual fighters and compare them. Either way champions from each are top class fighters, noone can deny that.

Except UFC's heavyweights are almost a joke, and I prefer UFC.
