Who is the strongest?(pound for pound)

Oh, I think I read this somewhere that you're doing pretty good if you can bench press 1.5x your body weight. You''re close, so that's a pretty good bench 🙂

I played football with a kid back in high school who weighed 145 and benched 280... right about twice his body weight. I was impressed by that.

If we were ant's size we still figure out some potent weapons. Speaking of insects . . . Spiders produce the strongest material pound for pound - a pencil thick spiderweb could stop a Jumbo jet in flight.

Oh yeah, nice bench press.

DAMN!!!!!!:Q

U2fan, is that just once or do you do a whole set at 185lbs?

Last thime I tried to max out, i got 190lbs up and I weight 108lbs.

Seems to depend on age too 🙂 A lot of low-fat teens will pack muscle on... and still be fairly light.

I would say that the average person in our society would not be able to push up 1 X their bodyweight. And yes, 1.5X weight is pretty damn good. A 200 pound man pushing 300 is quite strong, well well stronger than the average joe. But I'd rather weight 190 and be able to push 260 than weigh 150 and only do 230 🙂

And BTW I hope we're talking about free weight barbell bench press because machine bench presses are meaningless as a comparison to free weight bench press - which is the one people use when they say they can bench a certain weight. I weigh 195, can bench about 240-245 (used to be a bit higher) but if you stuck me on the right type of machine I could do 350; it means nothing on a machine.

No kidding... either that or he's 5'2" 😛
I haven't weighed 108 lbs since I was 11 years old

Edit: Oh, I guess I'll add my contribution. I weigh about 205 (I've gained a fair amount of weight in the last few months, and not all of it muscle. I'd like to be around 185 or 190 right now), and last time I maxed out I did 325. It was a 'wheaties day', like someone else said, because I was really surprised that I actually got it up 🙂 Plus, I haven't been working out quite as much since then, so it's probably dropped to around 300 or so.

Hey guys, don't forget about your back and legs. Don't just use the BP as your strength benchmark. How much can you guys SQ or DL? I'm pretty much a wimp, but I don't have enough weights at home to tell how strong or weak I am. I can pick up all of the wight I have, which is 170 lbs, on a regular bar with one hand, but I know that isn't anything to brag about.

When i was my peak at about a weight of 195 or 200 lbs I could bench for one rep 265lbs, deadlift an estimated 350 lbs (never tried cause its hella nasty on my back doing those real heavy ones fr one rep), squat was a pathetic 275 I would guess.

My legs have normally grown well when they get work and their size is fine...but I've just always sucked ass on squats. My current gym has only smith squats - and they are entirely useless. Extremely crap on the back (the smith squats) so I don't even do squats now.

Back in high school, I used to weigh about 145, and I could squat about 275.

Not bad for a twig eh?

I'm considerably heavier now, but I can still do about the same weight.

We won't discuss bench press 🙂 My lanky arms just aren't setup for lifts like that.

I'm a Physical Therapist with a background in strengh and conditioning. Your 3 core strenghening exercises are; Flat bench press, Squat, and Dead lifts. Those 3 will give you a well rounded idea of someone total body strengh. 🙂

21 full chinups (do you go all the way down?) are pretty good... again, the generaly public would be lucky to get one done! But thats only back (lats) and bicep strength...

21 pull-ups? Uh, yeah, that's good. 🙂

Squats I've always been pretty good at. I don't do them nearly as much as I should, though... I've been doing leg presses a lot more. When I was working out regularly, I could do a set of 10 at 405 on the smith squats. I always liked those better than the free squats, because I didn't have to worry about my balance. I actually had less back problems with the Smiths than with free squats (and even less than that with leg presses, which is why I do them more now). The last time I did free squats I did a set of 10 at 335 or so... and then almost passed out 😛

<< Hey guys, don't forget about your back and legs. >>

no kidding. I know so many idiots who just work their arms/chest, it's not even funny. I'd say overall body strength is more important than bench press. And where do you get this from? Squats and Dead Lifts at the absolute heaviest weight you can handle for a set.
