I know Antec is just OK, right? Is Seasonic the king of PSUs? If not, who is? I need one to replace this Antec that is failing due to a power outage.

PCP&P is probably the favourite around here, while at spcr seasonic is the king.

Antec is not in the running.

If you want low noise and high efficency then seasonic rules the roost. If you want good power regulation, build quailty and features then PC&P is pretty much top dog.

Antec is the Chevy of PSU's... common, reliable and reasonably priced. They are not bad in any way, but not considered "top of the line".

PC P&C is well respected, I would also put a vote in for Enermax as a top-tier PSU (as well as often pricey!).

Did you just use Chevy and reliable in the same sentence:confused:

Antec and Enermax are more complicated, since they both have low-end lines that are, frankly, not that good (though still better than off-brand crap PSUs), and high-end lines that are competitive with the very best units out there. Antec TruePower/SmartPower/NeoPower PSUs are pretty good, but the generic ones are just meh. The Enermax "Liberty" line is very good, but some of the cheaper ones are not.

PCP&C probably has the best objective "quality", but you also pay through the nose for it, and their PSUs are not particularly quiet or efficient (but are built like tanks). For the money, I'd rather have a Seasonic (which is quiet and efficient and IMO of similar build quality).

Silent PC Review and Tom's Hardware Guide both have extensive PSU tests (SPCR does them more often, and better, but only tests 'quiet' PSUs).

I've bought nothing but Sparkle PSes for years now. I think they're absolutely great.

You're mixing your sayings here... pick one. You may either say "King of the Hill" or "Cream of the Crop."

"King of the Crop" and "Cream of the Hill" do not compute... :)
Very useful post I know...

I own an Enermax 350W PWS that I bought 4 years ago... it has dual fans with adjustable fan speed. It delivers clean power and has been rock-steady since day one.

Eps.

I've been a pretty dedicated user of Antec power supplies, but I'm planning on a big upgrade when tax returns get here and I'll be jumping ship. I'm going to get myself a nice Seasonic s12 500W. 380W just isn't going to cut it anymore in the near future.

good choice.

edit: to op PCP&P tend to be loud the seasonic s12 did better in the stress tests over at toms hardware.

PC Power & Cooling (PCP&C) is the best. If you want the best, you have to pay for it ;)

I've had great success with PC&P Silencer 470 (own two of them) and the Seasonic S12-500. Have had problems with the Antec power supplies that come with the computer cases.

PC P&C probably make the best you will be able to buy. Fortron & Seasonic are also very good but for me, Hiper make a few great PSU's like my very own Hiper Type-R 580W Modular PSU.
