i voted for KG, only because his numbers this year were just amazing (i'm a fantasy geek). other than that, kobe, duncan, and kg are all pretty close in their dominance of the game.

as for shaq, he sucks, why is he even in the poll? i don't even consider him as one of the top 3 centers anymore.

vote him for what, b!tch of the year? that guy always has health issues, there's no way he can be considered the best player when he's always dealing with his back problems.

KG or Tim Duncan. We'll see when the Twolves and the Spurs meet in the Western Conference Finals.

This really should be split into several polls.

Q. If you were starting a new team and could build it around any one player, who would it be?

For me, 1. Garnett 2. Duncan 3. Kobe 4. LeBron

Q. Which player dominates the game more than any other?

For me. 1. Shaq (injured or not) 2. Duncan 3. Garnett 4. Kobe

Q. Which player could single-handedly win a game?

1. Kobe 2. McGrady 3. ???

Q. Which player would you most want on your team if you wanted that team to win the championship next year?

For me, 1. Duncan 2. Garnett 3. Kobe 4. Shaq

Q. Which player has the most talent per pound?

1. Boykins (haha!) 2. Kobe 3. Garnett 4. Duncan

Really, its impossible to say one player is "the best" right now. Jordan made that discussion pretty easy in his prime, but now it isn't nearly as clear-cut.

I do believe, though, that the top three players in the league right now are KG, Duncan, and Kobe...but to put them in any order is really impossible to completely justify.

Oh, and I have to comment on the "Kobe - the 3 others have a physical superiority which gives them an advantage" - wow that is an awful statement. Yes, those three are taller, but isn't speed an advantage? Isn't quickness? Isn't leaping ability? Come on now.

Kobe isn't really faster or quicker than other shooting guards. Rick Fox said Devean George was a more athletic player than Kobe.

TD doesn't dominate. Parker is the player that drives the Spurs.

i dont see anyone gettting all that much better or all that much worse in 2 weeks

if you are referring to outcomes of playoff series', i dont think it changes the outcome of this poll as the series are won or lost by teams and not individuals

not in any particular order:

duncan, garnett, kobe

position wise:

center: shaq
Fwd: garnett/duncan
guard: kobe

i disagree... yesterday's game put TD ahead of kobe for the "who's the best right now" award. KG had the best season, but he still hasn't been proven in the playoffs (nene wasn't much competition).
It all depends on who wins this round... and the round after it.

Personally, I think this question best equates to who is the "best" player in the NBA. Wouldn't you want the so-called "best" player to start a franchise? Just based on pure skill/physical abilities, all other factors aside (like age, character, etc), I would have to agree that right now Garnett is the best player in the NBA (Can you say MVP?). He can take anyone inside and outside, can dribble, pass, shoot from anywhere, and his athleticism for being so big is awesome to watch. Now that he has Spree and Cassell along with decent role players, the rest of the Western conference playoffs should be fun to watch.

A lot of people don't like Duncan because he isn't hip, or doesn't try for the monster jam, but if you look at his consistency day in and day out he is the best player in the game. How many MVP's does Kobe have? How many rings would Kobe have if he didn't have Shaq, ect on his team? Duncan is the man. Duncan is going to have 3 rings after this season anyway......the Spurs are unstoppable at this point......

exactly, i hate how some people think that how far a players team gets in the playoffs determines how good he is. if this question were asked anytime other than the spurs win last night, i highly doubt that duncan would be at the top of the poll right now.

how ridiculous is that? kobe and duncan don't play the same position, they weren't going one on one, how does that game determine who's better? please explain

It's very close between KG and duncan on these criteria. The reason you might not start a franchise around the best player is if they will retire soon or if you are not sure about their future in general. I put lebron as #4 but it's risky, he's already been injured once and one of the biggest killers of potentially great players is injury.

I picked KG because: he seems to be a little more hungry now, he can hit free throws, and I personally suspect he will be around a little longer. The free throws being the big thing. I actually think that duncan is a bit more dominant than kg during normal plays. If they had the same FT% then I would pick duncan, in other words.
