Who is St. Jude and why is he/she thanked in the newspaper?

Just curious... I always see "Thank you St. Jude for prayers answered" in the newspaper and ive always been curious what this is about...

yours too? every now and then i see that.....

after like $17 a week it gets kinda expensive, dosent it?

St. Jude's medical hospitals surely, right?

edit: btw, St. Jude was the one for miracles/impossible stuff iirc. The hospitals are for kids who have really bad problems (cancer, diseases, etc.)

Maybe those guys think they did something that was supposed to be impossible...St. Jude is the patron saint of the lost cause, no? (Thank you Untouchables :))

Bingo, it is thanks for an answered prayer of the "impossible" ie: cancer patient praying to st jude and cancer entering remission
