I dinged lvl 40 last night. I spend all my gold trading up to some decent mail armor with good stats (dwarf hunter) - so now I guess I'll spend the weekend farming so maybe I can get a mount soon. :)

Any ideas on making $$? I'm a miner/engineer, but that doesn't pay too well yet. The current economy of wool/silk/mageweave on our server is a joke. I remember selling a stack of wool for 45s, silk for 60s, and 1/2 stack of mageweave for ~1g - now I can't even get half that.

I'm currently killing wolves up by Aries Peak for decent vendor trash - same for basilisks in Desolace. Anything better?

selling the stuff you mine can make you a ton of coin... i also farmed ogres in alterac from lvl 37-40 to get enough gold for my mount... they drop good cloth you can sell and the occasional green and even blue items that can make good coin as well... plus the spot i found was kind of out of the way so people really left me alone for the most part, as far as ganking i mean...

edit: i just realized you said the economy for cloth sucks on your server... well if youre not getting good cash from AH'ing silk, turn the silk into bandages and sell them to the vendors... you can make ok silver that way... and from the sounds of it, more than what you can AH it for...

edit 2... and ill be playing WoW when i get off of work... going to run VC with my priest hehe

This could be a serious jerk thing to do on a weekend with lots of people around, so be wary, but you could consider farming low level elite areas, such as the mog'rosh ogre compound in Loch Modan. Anything you can kill easily which drops lots of vendor trash and green items.

Turtles are also good, though better for skinners than non-skinners.

Alterac is still pretty good, because you can do some mining in the numerous spots there.

Farming trolls in STV is a possiblity, though they may be harder than you would like for farming (i.e. you would gain experience... oh no!). Good drops on cloth and vendor trash, occasional green items, and wildvine.

Instance runs aren't bad either, if you can convince a high level buddy to steamroll you through SM or similar (sell the greens, good silver, lots of silk (2-3x as much as normal enemies I'd say)).

Play the AH... boring but effective at times. This can vary from buying vendor recipes and porting back to the AH to sell for a profit to finding singular low priced items and selling them for a more reasonable rate (e.g. I once got the Green Tower for 5g, it's a purple shield and being purple somehow it magically becomes more valuable to others).

Me... maybe I can get a group.... ah how it sucks to be a rogue. Especially when I see rogues with lvl40 ish gear on groups going into DM.

EDIT: Oh yea, and don't bother with meeting stones. They don't work.

If this is the case with your cloth economy, I have a decent method for you.

Mine as much Iron as you can, turn the heavy stone into heavy blasting powder, buy wool and turn those into heavy dynamite and sell the dynamite to the NPC vendors.

Sell the iron at the AH.

Alternatively, keep an eye on the AH for heavy stone and wool, buy them when they are low enough to turn a profit at the vendors.

Heavy dynamite sells for 70s for a stack of 20. 1 wool + 2 heavy stone average 3 sticks of heavy dynamite, so on average it takes 6.67 pieces of wool and 13.33 heavy stones to make 70 silver.

If you can get 40 wool for 45 silver, then your wool cost for 6.667 is 7.5 silver. In this case as long as you see havy stone for less than 90s per stack of 20, you will make money on the deal. Usually you can get heavy stone on my server for around 40-50 silver max per stack of 20.

There are times when I've just been able to buyout a few very low price wool and heavy stone auctions and make a some instant cash without relying on the AH to sell items.

On my server, the AH market for 'trade goods' fluctuate wildly depending on the day of the week. Tuesday through Thursday you can barely sell linen. But saturday and sunday linen will shoot into the 20-30 silver range. Wool is almost impossible to find at the AH saturday and Sunday, and can go for as much as 1 gold per stack. I've had 70 silver buyout auctions for wool gone in minutes on the weekends. Save up your trade goods auctions for the LATTER part of the weekend. After these items start drying up. Of course, that is pretty server dependent.

I'll be around.

I'm about half-way to level 17... I don't get out of work till midnight, but I have tomorrow off, so I'll probably be logged in from 1 am - 5 am (unless I get bored, in which case I've been thinking about creating another alt. maybe a druid. I've been thinking about rolling a priest, but after being able to take on orange mobs with my rogue, I don't know how well I'd deal with the priest's lack of solo ability).

Holy priests solo just fine too, no need for the qualifier. I can't take on 1v1 mobs like I can with my rogue, but I can handle groups of mobs much better than my rogue can.

haha. I'm hoping to hit 30 within the next 2-ish weeks, making my WoW character the highest level MMORPG character I've ever had :)

in EQ and DAoC, I got bored with all my characters in their mid-to-late 20's and started playing alts.
