I haven't posted here in about a month. Too busy giving the new rig some exercise. 😀
I see a lot of C2D threads here about problems with temp measures, overclocking, posting, BIOS, etc... I don't see a thread about happy Conroe users.
To recap, the one I built wasn't really my system... But since my friend was so happy with it, he let me play around with it for nearly a month before he moved in to his new apartment. Sadly it's gone now. 🙁
C2D E6600
ASUS P5W-DH Deluxe
2x1GB OCZ Ti-Alpha VX2
Seasonic S-12 600W
eVGA 7950GX2
Silverstone TJ-06 ATX Full Tower
The above was put through the standard batch of memtest, superPi, Orthos, 3DMark06, etc. With some memory timing setting adjustments, passed all burn-in tests without a hitch. Consistent 3DMark06 1280x1024 scores between 6900-6950, which was right on par with reviews of the eVGA GX2. The Hitman Blood Money that came free with the GX2 could never make the card fans spool up, even at max setting. Even in the Mardi Gras level.
It runs like a champ, very stable (don't recall a single instance where it BSOD'ed or locked up), quiet even with all fans at 12V, and also looks cool. Just about everything I could have wished for. And my friend is quite pleased with it. Of course to him, coming from a Dell Laptop where 800x600 "gaming" consisted of <5FPS with everything off - it is the rough equivalent from going from a Kia to a Porsche 911.
In fact since it worked out so well, I'm in the process of planning a very similar system for myself (albeit with slightly less cash to spend), and I see some interesting forum talk about this 7900GTO. Hmm 🙂
