Who is this Carmack guy that you guys keep talking about?

Some people have said that he has lots of money, he drives around in nice cars, and has hot women at his side. But who is Carmack?

Sorry but some of you sound like his b1tches or something the way you talk about him.

I really don't know who he is or why he would command any kind of respect, does he work for Anandtech?
 
btw, did anyone see that pict of him with his Diablo. Forgot what magazine I saw that in (must have been serveral years ago).

He's the programming genius behind the Doom and Quake series. Without Carmack, there would be no First Person Shooters. Now he's working on Doom 3, and expectations are high that he's gonna blow us all away with his incredible graphics (AGAIN).

And being attracted to somebody based on just looks is fine? People are attracted to different things... some want a trophy on their arms, others want somebody that can provide well... what makes one better than the other?
 
John Carmack is the programmer behind:

The Commander Keen series, the Wolfenstein series (the first popular pseudo 3d game), the Doom series (first popular pseudo 3d game where you can look up and down), the Quake series (true 3d!!)

w/o him, the PC gaming industry would be vastly different, the entire video card industry spawned because of his games.

IIRC John Carmack is married to Katherine Anna Kang (I guess Carmack now 😛) On their honeymoon, he brought a laptop so he could code.
