Who here uses flushable wipes?

What happened with us was if you flushed a toilet in our house upstairs, water would come up in the bathtubs and showers and then drain down super slowly. My mother in law kept doing it to show us what was happening in the other bathroom with a big tub. And what happened in the bathroom in our bedroom with just a shower is that water was coming up and it overflowed into the bathroom and went through the floor into the floor below.

When the plumber came, this is what he pulled out of the toilet my wife uses in the bathroom in our bedroom. These are all baby wipes.

Baby wipes are NOT flushable under any conditions. SOME flushable wipes break down pretty well...most do not.
 
Anything that says flushable is not actually flushable. That said, who wants shit just sitting around in their garbage can? The smell and not to mention risk of disease would be bad. Best to just use normal toilet paper and flush it, never heard of using wipes for an adult. For a baby you use wipes but you're usually changing the diaper at same time so you can throw it out in the plastic bag with the diaper. At least I assume that's how it works, I've never had a baby. Come to think of it though we need a better system for this sort of waste, not sure what, but something that does not require the use of so much plastic. Same with cat and dog poop. It's so wasteful putting it in plastic which takes 100's of years to break down, when the poop itself is biodegradable.
 
Funny thing is that I was just calling it by the product name because they're generic brand....

Good call if they don't float. I have quite a few feet of 4" lines before they hit sewer....not sure how easily those lines will clog with the amount of water we send down them (laundry, etc), but I suppose that's the risk. If you don't get enough water, they'll stick to the side and dry out....then cause a clog.

You can also use an inexpensive diaper-pail for wipes.

Most of them seal up relatively well being designed to contain (or at least minimize) poopy-diaper stench.
 
Despite the claim in the name, they aren't really flushable. I have told my family that the only thing that gets flushed down our toilets (other than pee and poo) is toilet paper. No kleenex, no paper towels, etc. We don't have wipes in the house so that doesn't even enter into it.
