And do you realize that everyone else in line is paying with card or cash?

Just wondering.
and thought of giving an FYI.
I'm 25 and the only time I write a check is to renew my registration..

so, do you?

I write a check at stop and shop nearly everyday for my lunch. I usually have it prefilled out aside from the total price so often it takes less time than signing a reciept or waiting for them to count out change.

I am irresponsible with a debit/atm card so i dont let myself have one.

Now that the one chain that accepted only cash or checks has FINALLY added debit card pads, I don't write checks at any stores. Winco used to lose a lot of my business because I'd forget to bring my check book with me, and didn't want to have to stop at the bank. They have the cheapest groceries around here, but the hassle pissed me off.

I only write checks for rent and the occasional pizza delivery.

I still write checks, and if I see you back there fuming and fidgeting, getting your panties in a wad I write even slower.

My store doesnt even have to ask for my ID anymore, they just run the check through the scanner thing, the receipt prints and I'm on my way. Its just as fast as a debit card transaction.

Even faster than some debit card transactions as I have seen lots of people run their card through 6 different ways looking for the strip everytime, and then they have to quiz the cashier about which buttons to push since there is no standard for card readers, and half the people dont know if their debit card processes as a CC or as a PIN type card.

You're making the assumption that check writers' transactions would be faster if they used a different form of payment, and I don't think that's a sure thing. Slow people are slow.

You might ask yourself why an extra 30 seconds in line is so upsetting to you. That's like saying it's infuriating that someone ahead of you in line bought 40 items instead of 25, because that made it take 30 seconds longer to check out.

Some people don't like carrying cash and not everyone has accts that allows free unlimited debit transactions.

That being said, I use my credit card for almost everything.

Maybe so, but you can judge when you are picking a line who has the most stuff so you pick the line with the person who has the LEAST amount of items. How do you know what form of payment they will be using.

I can't stand when people write checks. They have to fill it out, then hand their license and give a phone number. Use your debit card, its FREE!!!!!

Checks take only a neglible amount of time longer to write than paying with a credit card, so long as you do it correctly. kranky pointed out, slow people are slow. They're slow with credit cards, they're slow with checks and they're slow with cash. And I love how every one always thinks cash is faster, because its definately not when you take into account the change making and juggling that has to be done by the cashier and customer.

Why are you irresponsible with a check card, but not checks? I don't see how they are different...
