I was watching this really boring ass movie during my chinese cinema class and fell asleep during most of it... I'm on spring break and have to write a paper on it but I don't remember a thing about it.. Help me figure out it's title please!

It takes place during 1945 or so but it seems pretty modern.. There's a deaf guy who's mother died during labor (I think).. He's one of the main characters.. It's REALLY boring because everyone has to write to him and he writes back since he's deaf and mute - they literally show all of these conversations ont the screen using title cards... That's All that i remember.. any idea guys?

It's called City of Sadness... Supposedly it's a great movie - too bad I couldn't stay awake during it! Time to track it down on netflix...

I love chinese cinema.. this movie was kinda boring but "historically important" and watched for more what it said about communism than for entertainment (my professor even called it boring)

I do. IMO the choreography blows away American films.
