Who here owns or has had experience with a CoolerMaster Cavalier case?

Is the PCI box(audio connector runs from VU meter to PCI box, then to sound card) necessary for correct operation? I assume it is similar to the sound activated cathodes.

I doubt it. Just don't hook it up and the case will be fine the meter just won't work. Looked like a solid case from what I saw of it at Fry's.

I am sure that's an option for some, not for me. I like all my gear to be properly connected and working;)

I have it and its easy to set up. You connect the cable from the meter to the supplied PCI backplate connector. Then you connect the "out" from your mobo our souncard to to the "in" on the PCI backplate. Then you connect the "out" on the PCI backplate to your speakers.

My understanding is that the meter reads from the signal sent by your card or mobo and doesnt react to sounds in the case or room

I am missing the PCI backplate(purchased the case used) I was wondering if it would somehow work without it. Doesnt sound like it will just as I figured.

Anyone know where I can buy this item???
