I use mine a lot,I have probably made about 40 DL discs
If you can find them on sale then they arent that bad priced. The only problem I have with them is the burn speed. When they say 8x for example they mean the whole disc not just the second layer contrary to what one might think-I thought that it would burn the first layer at 16x then switch to 8x for the second layer.
My burner has lightscribe which I have not used yet.

No, they're too expensive. In fact, I haven't even burned a DVD at all with my new DVD writer. My portable hard drive is what I use to transfer most of my data around.

only a few because it was a cheap promo pack.

Several months back I was looking into them again hoping cost had come down. No such luck, but I came across some people complaining that compatibility and quality was still like the 1st generation dvd+/-r media... terrible. It's a shame because I would like to do some cheap offsite backup for some of my stuff. I'll probably just wait for a cheap external HD deal instead

Never had, I even have a DL disc that I got for free but don't know where the hell it is now.

If they cost waaaaay less than they do then I'd buy them, but as it is it's way to much money.

Another reason for DL is seasons of tv shows.I can encode Futurama(or whatever show) season x using the xvid codec and have the entire season fit on one DL in excellent quality(and no disc swaping) and play it back on my standalone dvd player with mpeg 4 playback capability.

I burn them when I can afford them. I recently picked 15 up for $15 bucks at Fry's. Beats encoding them (extra hour to burn) then burning to make back ups. Plus, I don't have to take anything out of the discs to make them fit (quality, extras).
