Who here has seen "The Fog of War"

Just plugging a movie I saw that is really good. Its basically an interview with Robert Mcnamera, who was in WWII and the sec. of defense during the cuban missile crisis and vietnam.

he def. went through a lot of things that most of us would never experience

I've always wanted to see it. I recently saw a movie on HBO about LBJ and he was a prominent character in it, of course (played by Alec Baldwin who did a respectable job). Like so many others who didn't understand the Vietnamese culture he thought simple peasants couldn't resist the might of US firepower. How wrong they were and yet the government still falls victim to the same falsehood time and time again in conflicts around the world.

thanks for the recommendation. I'm a huge WWII movie buff and will have to check this out.

Pyonir, it mostly focuses on his involvement in the buildup of forces in Vietnam and the consequences of this conflict. You're gonna have to get your WWII fix elsewhere. 😉

Indeed. 🙂 Man, I just finished A Rumor of War by Philip Caputo and it was wonderful. Not about the subject material but the insight, reality and detail of the Vietnam War. He saw some serious action and vividly describes the unglamorous day to day life as a soldier there. I hated putting it down after breaks and lunch at work.

Picked it up at a used bookstore. Look out for it for it sometime. Did ya ever finish Ripcord?

Damn you...quit giving me titles to read! 😛

No...i haven't picked up a book in at least a couple months. 😱 I haven't read too much lately. I'll add Caputo's to my list...his name sounds familiar too.

I've seen it but I always turn it off. Too hard to tell what everyone is doing when you can't see anything. Plus more exciting when you can see yoru death approaching.

Hehehe. Sorry. 😱

I've been reading mostly about the Vietnam era lately except for the Audie Murphy story I finished last week so tomorrow it's back to WWII and Corregidor!

I watched about an hour of this last night. I didn't like it. It was entirely too random for me...and i felt like i was missing something on most of the topics. Just my opinion though.
