Who here has renters insurance?

What companies are best? Which companies cover items such as computers or electronics or other items that you purchase?

Also if you don't mind, can you tell me how much you pay per month or every six months?

any comapny will protect your stuff, its just a matter as to how much and what coverages you choose.
make sure you tell them what you have and what things you want specifically listed as riders.

most comapnies will have property policies as annual policies.
when we were at our old apartment we were paying about 300$ per year, but i had my engagement ring, and our laptop listed as riders on the policy.

I have it through Statefarm, same with auto insurance. Costs me $7 a month and gives me a great deal (10% discount) on all of my insurance, so it's worth it.

$150/year for State Farm in Washington. Includes some default liability and medical coverage in case someone sues me if they slip and fall. I think I get a $20 discount for over 10 years with no claims filed.

It covers theft, fire of everything you own including computers (up to the limit, after the deductible) but doesn't cover accidents (dropping your laptop, spilling a soda on your cell phone, etc.)

most general insurance will cover things that are "sudden and accidental" or considered an act of god.
just like DaveSimmons wrote, it will not cover "boo boos" that the customer might do, unless you have a rider (items individually listed for an agreed amount) for them.

I've got Farmers. I pay ~$240 every year (pay it once a year.....it would be slightly more expensive if I did month to month), and for that I get $25K coverage on everything I own (replacement coverage, so they can't tell me it's all worthless junk that's over 6 months old, and thus has no more value), PLUS $2K just for a computer. It also gives me basic liability coverage, so if someone slips & falls on my icy sidewalk while ignoring my no trespassing sign, and gets a slick lawyer to sue me, I have some coverage. That's if I don't shoot him first!! 😉

Oh yeah, and that's also with a $500 deductible. Sucks if someone just steals something small, but good if the house is broken into and they get everything. 🙂
