Who here has modded a XBox?

Don't know that we can "legally" discuss backups. Could be wrong though. Are you talking burned to disc or stored on hard drive?

i dont notice a big load time difference but it is easier to manage because i can just keep all my games in the closet away from soda spills and little brothers. Using the HD to choose what games to start VS swapping discs is MUCH more convenient.

I just got mine modded thanx to advice from ATOTers... didn't plan on loading discs to the HDD though but it is definitely more manageable than swapping discs... what a PITA... but I only have like 6 games. I love it as a streaming media player.

Better load times. Particularly in games that load a lot like KOTOR. Also very convenient during parties because we don't need to swap discs with all the drunkards around. Just reset the xbox and choose the new games.

Also, in some games where there are limited save slots, you can back up previous saves then just save over them, giving you more save slots.

i softmodded mine. The games do seem to load faster, but I like the fact that the dashboard is so much imore intuiitve, that I can select what apps, games, and media I can view- I use UnleashX.

Load times are way faster. Sometimes too fast in fact. For instance in a game such as Fifa, the tips screen just goes away before you can actually read it.

Can you Xboxlive w/ the softmod?

Yes, but it involves having a hard drive outside your case. Two hard drives-the offical xbox hard drive, and theone with everyting else.

yeah there are some games, usually sports ones, where the loading times are too quick. You know when your friend that's never played before wants to know the controls, but with the game on the hard drive they only get like 3 seconds to figure it all out.

Still, a modded xbox = complete ownage

I got 2

one has a 200GB HD, X2 Pro 2.0 chip, Samsung 605B.

other is stock, with UDE1 softmod, and Samsung 605B.

I love my modded xbox. XBMC, the emulators, the ability to play hacked/homemade games like Halo NMP/CXE....so great.

hahaha, this has happened way too many times.

def worth the investment for all the stuff you can do.

Faster loading with a modded Xbox?? What part is modded for faster performance? I heard about putting in a ATA 100/133 IDE cable for faster performance but what about faster 8mb cache harddrives?? Could you easily replace the small Xbox harddrive with one for faster performance? Even if you replace the harddrive do you have to install any "Xbox OS"? I'm figuring there is some kind of stripped windows or something in there. Sorry for the noob xbox questions but I have a xbox now and will get it modded soon for emulator and multimedia use.

🙂 heh.. I'm getting back into console gaming now after a few years of strictly pc gaming so I picked up a xbox and ps2. I'll check out that site and see what I could do with my xbox.

You basically load the games themselves onto the modded, larger HD. Since HD > DVD, they load faster. And no disc swapping. Or scratching. It rocks. 😀

I just modded my xbox last night.

I went with the sodered x3 chip and a 80gb hd i had laying around.

Being able to backup games is a great feature, and the load times are magnificent, especially in games like nfl 2k5.

If you softmod an Xbox can you still play games games (off of dvd) on X-box live, or does it negate the ability to do that?
