I wan't to know who here has COCD, I have it Im not ashamed.

Its when u do things like move icons to certain area of the desktop and it has to be there,, if it gets moved, u have to restart your computer as the compulsion. You will obsess about drivers and tweaking and OCing, ull keep on doing compulsions which lead to a format or damaged hardware. youll get 10 fans , and they have to each be evenly put or your anxiety kicks in and you do a compulsion like ,,,, run spybot and spyware blaster, then 1 click maintenaance from tuneup ultilz, then reboot the computer as you go have a smoke. You will only come back in 10 minutes after the boot up is done.. so theres no caching thrashing of hard drive what not!... hmmm God be with us in these final days of ATI, as it will be AMD soon what you see on the graphics boxes.... heheh I know many of you suffer something like this come out open were here to help and listen.

Ehh .. I'm OCD about hating to reboot .... I only reboot when it's required ...
In Linux, I power down when I am playing with hardware or when I am doing electrical work in my house and need to shut down power.
In Windows I allow windows update to reboot my PC, but otherwise, I don't really reboot it unless I am messing with hardware, or turning off the power in the house.

One of my co-workers who calls in for support -must- have every program in an exact order or they restart everything.

The nature of their job requires they have no less than 80 windows open.

For me its more of a anxiety that I have to do this then that and run spybot update spyware blaster update...just diff things I think most of us have a little bit of this not to a disease point. but just as humans our minds work this way. But I am doing good with the COCD I dont believe I have it no more, takin Anafranil 225mg helps take the cocd away!,

Fuck no. I spend most of my day fixing computers of one type or another, the last thing I wanna do is start OCD'ing about my damn icons or reboot cause I moved something. What a waste of time..yeesh. *404, Rational thought not found*

edit: I tend to be OCD more about my house than anything.

Sounds like straightforward OCD to me. I think many people have it to varying degrees. I have known people who had fairly severe cases, but I thought it often responds to treatment. Perhaps its more difficult if its linked to other problems?

If people have it they have it, if people sneer at them for it I think that reflects badly on the sneerers.

Also, it has occured to me that superstitions are a kind of socially-sanctioned form of OCD, the strange rules some people have due to superstition appear to me almost indistinguishable from the ones people with OCD have.

(Some might extend that to religion and wonder if that's not a kind of society-wide OCD, or at least if it didn't begin with the same impulse - rituals to assuage anxiety - but I wouldn't dare suggest such a thing, I'll leave that to Richard Dawkins. Honest that was just a wicked passing thought, probably the work of Satan, I'll perform my cleansing ritual to cancel it out...).

Leave it to geeks to try to find justification for their mental imbalances and social disorders.

One of my co-workers is like that, but she only has like 10 things opens. But she would dread me telling her she needed to restart outlook (first thing on her taskbar) because she may as well just reboot and start over. Needless to say she was very happy to get Win 7 where she could drag things around the taskbar.

so what happens when a program borks your screen resolution to 640x480 and all your icons get moved to the top left?

o_O

I get being anal about computers and their organization, but I definitely don't feel compelled to restart the machine when an icon gets moved out of place....I just move it back.

True OCD + computers sounds like suckage.

I was going to say yes, but after reading your post, your level of OCD is so much greater than mine it should be classified as something completely different, so I am going to say no.

"Its when u do things like move icons to certain area of the desktop and it has to be there,, if it gets moved, u have to restart your computer as the compulsion."
