Who here has AT&T/SBC/Yahoo DSL??

So, i buy a Netgear and after 3 hours with SBC and Netgear tech support, no one can get it to work. It is a known issue that Netgears don't like SBC, especially with the 2wire modems.

Who here is using SBC DSL and a wireless router.....what brand and model are you running, and did it give you any setup troubles?

I have used Netgear for almost a year with not a problem but I switched to a airlink product about six months ago and they seem to perform about the same. Every so often, I have to unplug the ac adapter to "unfreeze" the router. It seems to have freeze up problems when the router is accessed by two-three wi-fi signals at once. Both Netgear and airlink had the same problem.

I also use a Linksys 54g(third revision) at work and I have no problems at all. Both times, I do not use sbc yahoo installation disks. I just call them up and they help me install their "modem" manually. It usually takes about ten minutes...

huh? any router should work. its just a pppoe or whatever connection. you just have to enter the correct login info for it to work.

I recently changed from SBC but still use my SBC equipment: 2Wire 1800HG with a USB adapter on one computer and a HPNA adapter on the third. They work beautifully together.

You can buy the 1800HG for $25 with free shipping.

Apparently the WGR614 and the 2wire modems have issues, that much can be told by googling. The modem has to be put into bridge mode for starters, but after calling tech support no one could get everything up and running. I finally gave up after the second Netgear tech told me her supervisor would have to call me back in an hour (this was at 9:45 last night). I tried setting the router up on my PC with cable internet, and had it running in under 10 minutes, so it's definitely related to the DSL.

I have had trouble with Netgear and SBC DSL. But both cases were with a Speedstream modem. One of them is just erratic, the other would drop the connection every couple days. Never did straighten the first one out. The second one we replaced with a Linksys and it has been fine since.

If your 2 wire is like my Speedstream, you can have the modem in either router mode or bridge mode. If it is in router mode, then your router should be configured as an access point. If it is in bridge mode, then your router should be configured for PPPoE.

I don't know what a 2wire modem is, but with my speedstream 5100 and wgr614, i logon using the 5100, it's not in bridge mode, and don't use the wgr614 to logon.

Does your sbc dsl connection work if you connect directly fom the modem to a pc ?

I'm pretty sure it's the speedstream 5100 DSL modem that's causing the problem. I've been thinking about calling AT&T and request an exchange.

The speedstream 5100 is the same one that I have. I had a lot of trouble with the Netgear router, but the Linksys works perfectly with it. I have no idea why.

should have gotten the 2Wire that you can order from SBC. i, and everyone i know who has one, have had zero issues with it in ~3 years.

I have a speedstream 5100 in bridge mode, I used to use a d-link di-624, it worked for the most part. I currently have a buffalo wbr-g54v2 connected to the speedstream 5100 in bridge mode and it's been running without a problem for almost 2 years now.

dslreports.com has a section where you can post your question directly to SBC techs that might be able to help. I'm not familar with the 2wire but they probably have some posters there who can help you get it set up.

2wire products are only distributed through service providers.
