BritishBeefEater, i would say it's safe to go with at least 300W for a Athlon system! :)

Russ (an AnandTech regular) over at CompuCheap sells the Enermax 351 for $60. Not meaning to subvert MingChia's offer, just giving you another option. You should use at least 300W for an Athlon, and Enermax seems to be the best for a reasonable fee. If you want to save cash (which I doubt, since you're considering 450W), there's always the 300W Antec PP-303X, which usually goes for around $40 at most online vendors, Buy.com included.

Leadman 400w dual fan here. And it is quiet !

Upgrading from 300w solved Geforce freezing in AGP 4X mode.
(With 250w it was freezing even in AGP 2X )
And I dont even have an Athlon , its lowly c600@900.

PowerMan 300W PSU :)

Beautiful ... but loud !!!
Can't complain since I can only get my Duron 700 to 950 with a 250W PSU and it would unstable.
With this PowerMan 300W PSU I can push my Duron 700 to 1016 !!! ROCK SOLID STABLE :)

Enermax EG351P-VE. Replaced a 235w p.s. in an AOpen HX45 case. Thought the fan was dying, and it was a good excuse to up the p.s. to the quality Enermax unit. I'm very impressed w/ the number of peripheral connectors, along w/ the length of the ATX power connector.

Enermax 450w in this system (replaced an Antec).

Enermax 350w in another system (replaced an Antec).

Antec 300w in other systems (the two Antecs replaced by Enermax's were used to replace 2 generics).

Do any of you Enermax owners run a Athlon system? I only ask b/c I don't see that PS on the AMD "recommended PS" page.

edit: I see a few of you do have athlon systems.

Better look again. It's definitely on the recommended list.

It's only approved up to 1000mhz on AMD's pages right now, but they're slow to test.

I recall, the 450 not being approved for 1000mhz or even 900mhz! for a while, but since it is now, it just means it took them while to get around to testing it and adding approved speeds to its list.

Hey all

I was looking at the Enermax EG351P-VE as my next PSU, and I'm looking for something quiet. The specs on the Enermax site say "Noiseless", but I find that hard to believe seeing that it's got 2 fans in it.

Any remarks from current Enermax owners on the noise level?

Thanks in advance
