I think having a great boss is one of the most important aspects of a job. I've been working my first IT job out of college for a year now and I've come to the conclusion that my boss it the best I've ever had, mind you I've had some kick ass bosses that I would consider good friends today. On top of my PTO he gives me days off when I ask, which he'll just call comp time. I told him that I was going to a concert and may have to use PTO the day after b/c I'd be extremely hungover... he said no prob. So then I show up for work the next day at 8am and he was stunned and let me know that I could take 2 days off on him just for making the effort to show. He tells me to take a 2 hr lunch every now and then b/c I'm not a smoker and don't utilize ten 15 minute smoking breaks a day. He's just so laid back and lenient... and we have a lot in common, especially enjoying the rock/metal genre. I don't think I ever want to leave this job considering the responsibility level, benefits, and the #1 reason - the bossman. Care to share your stories? I truly feel sorry for those who hate their job b/c of their strict micromanaging a-hole bosses.

You don't have to brown nose here.....unless he's a member ;)

My boss(es) have given me the benefit of the doubt on many occasions, and put up with me when I was a "Diamond in the rough". now that I'm the Hope fvcking Diamond they've given me my own store ;). Yeah, they rock.

Seriously though, they've been awesome with me when it comes to my son. I'm a single Dad with full custody and they've been more understanding than anyone I know. My son had his own office at the old store and stayed with me everyday through summer break. He hung out and helped, and he was only 7 at the time.

My one boss has two sons and my son and I will do things with them on the weekend. My other boss is a crazy cat and pretty fun to go hang out with.

I consider them friends, then business partners, then bosses (though they don't want me to consider them bosses).

I've had a few cool bosses, but no one who I was as close with as that. My current boss is cool because he doesn't over-manage or look over my shoulder. Tells me what needs to be done and I get it done. Downside is he's so busy he doesn't always give me enough info to properly do my job and I either have to hunt him down (very busy guy) or seek input from others. Not really a problem, but it'd be nice if he elaborated more sometimes ;)

Very relaxed work environment, I can work from home most anytime I want, already do work from home Tues/Thurs since I have one class to finish my 2nd degree, overall great job :)

Oh, I forgot to mention. I just now asked him if I could leave after lunch b/c my fiancee is coming in town... he says sure no problem at all. I say, ok I'll just use 5 hrs of PTO. He says... not a chance, don't worry about doing that. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Woot!

Sounds like you're livin it up too. I hear what your'e saying though about your boss elaborating more on things. I've been through that in the past. That would be the least of my worries though.

I do. He likes Formula One racing and he pretty much leaves me alone to do my job.

There's nothing worse than someone who comes by every 30 seconds to see what you're doing. I worked for an evil b!tch like that once. I swear, if I opened the paper today and read that she died a horrible death it would bring a smile to my face. :D

Seriously that is the #1 reason for people leaving their job. Micromanagement absolutely sucks! I had 2 jobs in college like that and left within a few months.

Oh, I forgot to mention something else my boss did for me. He won tickets on the radio to Skid Row here in Atlanta. He figured I'd have a better time so just dropped them off with me and said have a blast. I'm like woah.

My boss is great. He fights political battles for me when it's over my power level and he lets me do my job in any way neccessary without getting in the way like some of my previous bosses. On top of that he's a great guy, someone you could easily grab a beer with and not feel like you're confined to talking about work.
