I haven't included any kind of floppy device in any PC that I've built since 1996. I figure I can just network my computer with one of the retail schmuck computers that has a floppy drive if I ever need it, but I've very rarely needed a floppy. I got this P200 a few years ago on ebay for $100 that included a floppy, and used the floppy about twice.

Oh, and I got a laptop on FS/FT that has an external floppy. Haven't used it yet.

Haven't done the 5.25" thing since the IBM PCJr.

oh on my computer here at work(i do web dev things), it is a win 95 machine pentium(yes the original) 166mhz. 64 mb ram and a 5 1/4 inch floppy lets not for get the 3.5 gb harddrive. I can confirm your presumptions, yes I hate this machine with all my soul.

I still have a combo drive in my 2000 server in the basement. For now.
But last night there was a fatality in our household. RIP power supply fan. So I just scrounged up at old AT powersupply and case here at work that I should've thrown out a year ago so I guess the quickest and easiest will be to transplant the motherboard and drives into this case and ditch the old one including the combo drive. That was a great old case. Dell knew how to make them back then (circa 94). This was the second time I've had to do soemthing about that fan.

I recently inherited my Dad's old computer when I built him a new one - rebuilt machine in an old Pentium 90 case with a 3.5/5.25 combo drive in it. Still works.

i usually don't put 3.5" floppies in pc's anymore, if i can help it

the sooner the floppy dies/goes away the better

i went to do some community service...
volunteer work at a local church.

we were on this project where we had to clean out the basement of this half-way home center.
and they threw out an old dx2 machine. so i snatched out the 5.25 outta there.
:)

as for installing in my pc...
hmm.

i recently installed 3.5 just 'cause my wife needed it.
i don't think my wife will be asking for 5.25 floppy drive anytime soon.

:)

it's just cool to have... right next to my apple IIe and PowerBook 180. :)
