The thread on who grew up poor made me wonder how many here received either free or reduced price lunches.

I did not, but knew many people who did.

I did! Apparently some asshole kids make fun of you for this?

    My school, nobody cared.

I remember Turkey slop Thursday once a month ish.... It's a big goo of delicious turkey meat in gravy + stuffing. The portion easily tripled other normal lunches.

Whenever that happened, the whole class after lunch would pass out from food coma.

I at one point got free school lunches.

But I always choked on the vile taste of socialism on my taste buds, so I finally turned that shit away and went hungry like a man.

I did not, but where I went to school so many of the kids got free or reduced price lunches that it wasn't really thought about. In fact, I believe I was in the minority by far in paying full price.

Reduced price lunches didn't exist when I was a kid...You paid the $0.25 for hot lunch...or you brought your own. High school was more expensive...hot lunch was $.50...and no low-income breaks there either.

I got free lunch from elementary to high school. I went through the public school system. There were lots of blacks and latinos in the schools I went to. I think 5% of student body were white.

Same here, and yet all those poor people managed to continue to procreate and their kids continued to grow up. Liberals spending other people's money to buy favor all the while exercising control and creating and managing a dependent class is a mental disorder.....or they are evil, or maybe just stupid.

I got free lunches through middle school, because I worked in the kitchen to get the free lunch. Mostly doing dishes.

In high school they didn't do the same deal, so I paid full price or brought my own.

I always brought my lunch from home. Cafeteria food sucked. But I wouldn't have qualified for free/reduced lunch anyways.

In Sweden, everyone gets free lunches through school (until you're 18).

No free/reduced lunches where I grew up.

Paid the $0.15 or lunch box.

My kids were eligible for free lunches when we were active duty :(
did not take the system up on it, but is shows how badly the service pay was back then that an office was not making the break-even level for lunches.

School lunches? Everyone brought their lunch, there was no such thing as school lunches. If you didn't bring food you didn't eat.

I did not get free or reduced lunch but in my high school you got your weekly tickets for the free lunches and kids were selling them for $.50. A meal in my school cost $1.25 so hell ya people were buying the tickets off the poor kids. The poor kid would now have some money. Well someone got caught an they had a big announcement over the PA system and said if any one is caught will be suspended. As far as I know that went on for half the school year before anyone was busted.
