who here GAMES ONLINE and what are the people like?

hello I never played an online game so anything you have to say will be news to me. I heard though that there are some real "gits" out there, who curse you roundly if you aren't up to their stratospheric standard when you join their games, etc.

what are the worst games for attracting assholes?
what are the nicest bunches?

i wasn't thinking of fps games to try, something more sedate and cerebral, like strip poker maybe, with a webcam...

Well, I suppose that all games get all kinds of people. At this point, I'm finding text-only games (MUDs) seem to be getting the short shrift on players lately, while first-person shooters are less about community than action, action, action. Erm, digression on my part. :disgust:

I've had a great time playing Tetrinet online. It's very basically multiplayer Tetris, up to six players in one game at a time. Fun stuff, and a quick download. Of course on the other hand there's Counterstrike, where especially if you stick to playing on one or two servers regularly, you develop a kinship with the other regulars there. It's always nice to know who you're killing.

i have a great online game for you to try...go to www.planetarion.com. Its basically a space game where you have your planet. Your planet belongs to a galxy of 24 other planets (25 total). You and your galaxy work together to grow stronger by building ships and getting astroids. Astroids give you money which you can use to build ships, so you have to have astroids to grow stronger. The way you get astroids is to attack others and take theirs. Its a really great and addicting game, trust me...Its free and requires no downloads

it's all fun and games, even when you spend more time in a flame war with the other players than actually playing

ive had good and bad experiences, the best are the quake 2 players who accuse me of "stealing their packets" since i am on a fast connection. ( T3 + OC3 ) they end up complaining aobut that more than playing and then when they dont win they blame it on lag or whatnot.. but most of the time everyone is fun and just kills each other. Giants is a fun multiplayer game too....

I've been playing Asheron's Call for awhile now. There are some very nice people on there....but you also get your "screw you for a buck" crowd.
