I didn't have one for years, but recently caved and bought a prepay. The phone was 30$ and it's only 15$ of airtime every 3 months to keep active. So I figure it is cheap enough to have around for calling family in emergencies, tow trucks, etc..

OMG, there is hope after all!

Held out till about a year ago, when our son went to school. We got a family plan now, and share 700 minutes between five phones. Only use half of those. After having it, I know we can get by with a cheap prepaid plan, and that's what we'll do when the contract is up.

I don't use my cell as much as I used to in college, but I still couldn't live without it.

As much as I hate talking on the phone and being bothered, it has come in handy quite a few times. And I'm not talking just emergencies... just things that enhanced / helped / prevented events. Sure we can live without it, but it doesn't hurt to have it as I'm sure you've encountered if you have one. Don't want to be bothered sometimes ... turn the ringer off and check VM later.

No cell phone for me. I had multiple cell phones for years and didn't talk much on it. I was first to have one when they just came out, you know--2 lb. brick phones :D Now, I hate the damn things. No use for one and I hate being "on call" all the time. No privacy whatever. What especially pisses me off about them is the damn ringtones.

To me a cell phone should be an essential tool. Now, it's just a fashion statement and a marketing tool for companies. Not to mention it distracts people and destroys public ettique.

Funny thing is how most of us lived without a cell about a decade ago, now we "need" and cell phone and can't live without it. Just absurd...

I have not had a land line in over 5 years because a cell phone is more convenient for the same price. I have caller ID and voicemail as well as a silent/vibrate option (that I use frequently) so when I don't want to answert the phone I don't pick it up. For those who think having a cell phone keeps you tied to your phone blah blah these are BS excuses b/c it does not.
