Who here does NOT have a cellphone?

I have both a cell phone and a land line.

I have the cell phone primarily for long distance, but end up using it for most everything. I'm not quite sure why I still have the land line...

Between my cell phone, my land line, and my half of the cable service I spend over $100 a month on communications services.

Kinda scary.

I have a cell phone. Thinking about ditching my land line because you can get so many minutes on cell phones now. Why pay both? It's too convenient that I couldn't live without it now.

I love that leash comparison because for some reason a lot of people who I've talked to who don't want a cell phone for this reason don't seem to understand that you don't have to answer it or you could just turn it off if you want to be left alone.

And for most phones out there, you can turn off the ringer all together if you don't want to listen to it.

I don't. I never talk on the phone so why should I pay $30+ monthly to carry around some large object in my pocket? There are still a few people at my school (college) who use the pay phones so I don't think everyone there has one yet.

If you have stuff going on... like hockey games, picking up people at the station, work problems if you're always on the go, etc. etc. you cannot be without the convenience of a cell phone these days. I can't count how many times my teammates were able to reach me to let me know they can't make it, or if there was a game time change while I'm out... it saved me many hassles and inconveniences. My fiance can let me know if her train is running late so I don't have to sit outside the station wondering WTF is going on. Work emergencies... well I have a pager, but how the fvck would I be able to tell people how to resolve a sev1 problem when I'm not there (which is more and more often) without a cellphone ?

Some of this isn't absolutely essential, but the convenience is there, so why not take advantage of it? Why should I limit myself?

Car emergencies? You may have never had one yet, but many people have insurance even though they haven't gotten into an accident.

I'm sure there are times in people's lives when they've said to themselves they wished they had a phone to use right then and there. It depends what you have going on in your life and how often you are out.

People also use payphones because:

1) they can cheat it
2) they use a phone card and don't want to use up cell airtime minutes

also depends on your financial situation. im a student with no job. $40+ a month isnt cheap when your income is $0.

I have one through verizon prepaid. I use it so infrequently that I pay $30 every 60 days just to keep it active. Kill me the day I spent $50-60 or more a month on a cellphone (unless I've gotten rid of a landline).

I've had one for 13 months and it's been extremely useful. If I don't want to talk to someone or don't want to answer the phone, I either ignore the call or turn off the ringer/vibrate-feature (no way I was calling it a vibrator!) - that doesn't happen too frequently though. My phone makes things much easier and provides more flexibility for making plans, changing plans, etc. It's also nice for calling home to give my parents an update on where I am and what I'm doing...and that I'm alive so they don't get worried. That is more for their sake than mine though.

Free long distance is nice too because my sisters are older and in two different states. While I actively had a computer business for a few months (I've gotten too busy with school and other things now though) I put my cell phone number at the business number and this made things extremely easy.

All in all, I'm a big fan of the cell phone. However, not my cell phone, the Nokia 3360, it's been doing funky stuff and the battery life is crap now, so I'll be getting a new phone before I go off to college.

There aren't that many sites who like to take advantage of the generous 40 pixels width-wise. Well, that was the last time I wrote something for it... some time in '01.
