I just received my Half-Life 2 funds in the form of a $50 compusa gift certificate from my mom's credit card reward program. Yay!

you mean for the actual game or the $400 video card you're going to have to buy to fully enjoy all the effects?

If you have to "save up" for a game.. probably shouldn't be spending any more money

Already have that, bought a radeon 9500 pro about 7 months ago. And no, I don't have a job, but I have been looking for one.

Half-life 2 = $50
3ghz cpu/mobo/ram = $600
5900 or 9800 vid card = $400
Total = $1050 to be able to play half-life 2.

I think ill skip hl2 ;)

You could probably get away with a 2ghz cpu/mobo/ram combo and a radeon 9600 pro, this game scales well.

Edit: minimum specs are like 800mhz and a DX7 card.

I said fully enjoy, not semi-fully enjoy. If you turn everything on you'll need something better than a 9500 pro.

I already have mine reserved at the local video game store. HL2 is gonna rule. And you arent gonna need a 3.0ghz P4. And CS2 is gonna suck. Based on the original HL engine. They are outta their damn minds if they think people are gonna pay $50 for an engine that old.

Oh come on, I'm sure it will look great on a radeon 9500 pro, with full DX9 effects. My monitor only does 1152x864 comfortably anyways, so it's not like i can have a lot of resolution.

I read that thinking it was going to be a priceless joke so...

Half-life 2 = $50
3ghz cpu/mobo/ram = $600
5900 or 9800 vid card = $400
Not being able to play HL2 with FSAA = priceless

:p

I'm sure it'll look fine, the game does scale well, but you're just kidding yourself if you think HL2 on a 9500 pro will look as good as and play as smooth as on a 9800

You're outta your damn mind if you think they won't. Counter-strike is as popular as any other game and it uses the original Half Life (quake) engine too. Name recognition is everything, and condition zero will have it big time.

But it sucks that you don't have a lot of time to play games when you have a job.
